I finally settled on a Z-28 combo for my cover gig (lots of pedals) but I'm considering adding an EZG to my collection, because the clips I've heard are making me salivate.
I recently ordered (and returned) a Bad Cat Fat Cat 50, and I could not have been more disappointed. It was very flat sounding, the reverb had no depth, and my iPod has more clean headroom. Seriously, it broke up super early, and not in a good way. Maybe I got a lemon, but it was bad.
Seems like on paper the EZG and the FC are similar: same power section, three-knob reverb, etc. My instincts tell me the Z will be far superior, but just wondering if any one out here has had experience with both amps and can tell me how they compare.

honestly, I've never herd much good from people I know who have owned Bad Cat amps. Maybe there's something to it? I've never personally played one, but from what I've her, I shouldn't have much interest in it either. haha

I'm pretty happy with mine. Tonally, I would say it's in the same vein as a mid '60s Twin. Also sounds similar to that really good YouTube clip of the Morgan RCA35. The reverb is amazing and there's plenty of headroom and it breaks up very smoothly.

I've never personally played one, but from what I've her, I shouldn't have much interest in it either. haha The only Bad Cat I owned that I really liked was the Classic Cat...6V6 20-watter with just a volume and tone. The Hot Cat 30R I owned had a good clean tone, but that's not why you buy it. The OD channel was average. My pedals sounded better to me and all my guitar-playing friends. The Black Cat wasn't bad, but certainly not worth the money. I guess I should have learned my lesson, but the Fat Cat sounded so good on paper... The Bad Cat amps are impeccably built, and service was great when I had mine. They are HEAVY amps. But regardless of build quality, the tone just can't compete with the Dr. Z lineup. And the Zs are a MUCH better value.
