I was taking to one of the night shift policeman that patrols our area and mentioned that my collection of axes needed a flying V to be complete. He mentioned that he way one at a local pawn shop and that he would stop there while on patrol and see if he could bring it to me to have a look see. Well, don't you know he showed up at practice with this pawn shop special. It was a 2006 Flying V faded. The previous owner apparently had been pawing and picking up his guitar for many years and just sort of disappeared. I tell ya' the thing is nice. I has very, very old, dead and corroded strings yet it rings like a bell and sustains forever; great "bones") Unfortunately the old owner had put some pick-ups in it that need to come out (I'm thinking Wolfetone Legends at the moment). He also did a lousy job of removing what little finish the guitar has (he didn't even remove the pickguard) I took it to my luthier buddy and he is going to put a korina finish on it and clean up the frets a bit but that's about it. Price you ask? The pawn shop owner was asking $395 but I told him all I was willing to pay was $275 and he said OK. Pretty surprising as I never find these kinds of opportunities; I'm gonna take advantage of this one...

Great deal Steve. You stole that one. Now you have to worry about those police coming back to get you for theft.

Great deal Steve. You stole that one. Now you have to worry about those police coming back to get you for theft. I know Marc; these thing NEVER happen to me. Should be no problem though; the Cop is actually Jimmy. I think you may have met him at the Mini Michigan Z-Fest. It looks like he may even be joining the band....

Amazing bargain!! Nice one, Steve. Perhaps it's just the angle the pic was taken, but the neck profile looks HUGE!!(?)

Originally wanted to go with a honey color to try and mimic the '58 Koria but the wood is sooo porous and barely sealed when the original finish was put on that it just can't be sanded out enough to lay a light color.
Have to go to Plan B. Dark cherry (I mean real dark and RED). Initial coats, so far so good.
BTW the original owner did his own re-finish and the @#$%$%+) used a friggin' BELT SANDER! Unbelievable...
Just got a set of Bare Knuckle Calibrated "The Mule" pick up's to put in this baby (black un-covered of course) when she's ready- which will be soon I hope.
Some bad cellular phone pic's

Amazing bargain!! Nice one, Steve. Perhaps it's just the angle the pic was taken, but the neck profile looks HUGE!!(?) Yeah, it must be the picture angle Alan or maybe how I sized the image as the neck is not that huge. Holy mosses it looks huge doesn't it?

Let me know how you like the Mule set! I have a Mule neck pickup that that is just sitting on a shelf - might have to give it a whirl.

Well,my Pawn Shop Special is finally complete. One heck of a time with the headstock. Replaced the black speed knobs that the original owner had put on with proper top hats and put in a set of Bareknuckle "The Mule" pick-ups. I'm really diggin' the color and the Mules. Unfortunately all I have are these cellphone pic's.
