Hello all,
I'm having some issues with my Amp and FX pedals i've recently bought and i'm trying to determine if i'm the cause of the problem or if its a fault with either the pedal or the amp.
So My current set up is:
Guitar - Vox Wah - Wampler Paisley Drive - Wampler Ego Compressor - Amp input FX LOOP - TC Electronic Flashback delay - TC Electonic HOF Reverb - FX LOOP
The problem i'm getting is with the Delay and Reverb. They seem to temporarily work and the effect will be sounding with the pedal light being illuminated and then without any warning, they will shut off. Sometimes they will come back on immediately, other times not atall. When they shut off a popping/clicking sound comes through the speakers of the amp until i've disconnected them from the loop. I have also tried these two pedals through the main amp input individually and they seem to do the same thing. Now usually, I would assume it's a fault with the pedal but as it's happening to two brand new pedals i have only just purchased, both being TC Electronic, i'm starting to wonder if it's something i'm doing.. EG. I need a buffer pedal.
The pedals are all being run off Brand New 9V Batteries that i put in them today. i went out to buy them specifically just to make sure the battery wasn't the problem. I've also tried different cables without any luck. The pedals seem to have a mind of their own and sometimes work and other times don't.
The cables i'm using are between 10 and 20ft in length.
Any assistance would be hugely appreciated!

The simple answer is to use a pedal that you KNOW is working fine.If the issues continue its not the pedal. Just my 2cents but I never use the effects loop on my 38...ever..I am sure there are some folks on here who do but most that I know go direct into the amp...to be honest the last effects loop I ever used was on an old peavey bandit 65 and it worked well...still does as I still have the amp, no MAZ but all kidding aside, I have played way worse amps for way more money....sorry about the peavey rant, they just don;t get no love...ha! If its in the amp, email the Z guys, they will help...and it may be just a principle thing with me but no one has ever worked on any of my Z amps but the Z guys. You cant go wrong with them...and amps come back with extra dusting of mojo powder...no other way to get it....enjoy your amp, IMHO the MAZ38 is about as good as it gets...

I know that some people here on the forum routinely run certain of their effect pedals, like modulation, delay or reverb, in the loop of their Z amps. None of my Z amps have a loop so everything is in front, but there is a school of thought that says than stomps should not be run in a loop, rather, rackmount units are better suited for placement in the loop. I don't know the technical ins and outs of this, and my recollection of this debate was that it was ten or fifteen years ago. At that point I was running direct into a Mesa F50 1x12 combo, with nothing in front of the amp, and the out of the loop into a TCelectronics rackmount for mods and delay, then back in. Now when I play the Mesa, I put all of my board in front of the amp, just like my Z amps, and it works fine. It seems to me that loops make the signal chain longer with not much to show for your trouble.
Or I may just be under-evolved...

I think you are correct, they are better suited to rack mount effects... There are many times I only bring a delay pedal and the amp...I am just a delay junkie...

Have you adjusted the dip switch inside the hof to buffered? Need to do this in a maz loop I was told.... Personally it sounded better out front than in the loop anyway. Not sure about the flashback re the buffering but that pedal drains batteries like a mother. The hof is a bit thirsty too.
