I am new to this forum and was wondering if anybody could help me out with this. I'm thinking about buying a used stangray combo that has had the 2 blues replaced with 2 celestion g12t-75's. Haven't had the opportunity yet to try it out. Would appreciate anybody's advice as to whether those speakers will still give me that great stangray sound or what to expect good or bad. Would prefer the blues but that is what it has. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Aren't the g12t-75 those scooped speakers....which are mostly used for metal music? And don't they have some high end roll off? (probably to pair them with Boogie amps) I think those would be terrible with a stangray. The stangray is somewhat of scooped sounding amp. And when you combine it with a scooped sounding speaker, it's just too much. I had a stangray and found it goes well with midrange oriented speakers. Blues, golds (for alnico) and anything in the greenback camp. Blues and golds are very loud (100db speakers) A pair of greenbacks in there would be less volume. (the 'ray is a deceivingly loud amp) If I had a 2x12 'ray combo, I'd go for a pair of greenbacks. I don't really have much experience with the different feel/tone of alnico vs ceramic.
Of course those g12t-75 speakers are only 97db....very quiet for a given volume. Perhaps the person chose those to curb some volume?
The stangray is an incredibly clean amp. Great for 1) country cleans with a tele (magical) and 2) using the amp as a clean platform and using pedals for overdrive/dirt/distortion.
and it's a 2x12 stangray combo? Hope you have a strong back.
The harmonic content of the stangray is incredible. And the firm bottom end is stunning. No flabby bass.
....and welcome to the forum. LOTS of information and help in here.

I would make sure the price is right. Musicians friend sells New blues for $279 and g12t75 for $109. That's a $340 difference for a pair. This amp should be priced $350 lower than a comparable stangray with blues.
We've had several well priced stangrays on the forum in the last month, id dig through the buy n sell as well to see what meets your criteria.

Prior Ray owner. Unless you are getting a REAL good deal, I'd hold out for a head\cab setup or a 1x12 combo with speakers that will enhance the Ray's qualities John referred to above. Those 2x12 combos are heavy, expecially with ceramics. My preference would be Gold\Gold or Gold\Blue for alnicos or Weber Blue Dogs or a BD\Silver Bell combo for ceramics. Never tried the alnico BD's but I'll bet those would be nice as well.

Welcome to the forum. The stangray is a great amp. John hit the nail in the head. I can't say I've tried those speakers with the Ray but have tried a G12H and a scumback (H75) strong bottom and emphasized high end. Both my least favorite speaker for the Ray. The head/cab set up is nice, for some gigs I use a Z-Best (rocking rig) and other gigs an inefficient alnico loaded open back cab. It's like playing two different amps.
