When I got my 1999 Interstate Route I purchased 2 extra pairs of the Saratov KT66's which were the recommended tube at the time. I am on my 1st of the replacements and so I have one extra pair left. I am also still using the 5AR4 with those tubes (set up by the Doc).
I know the newer Routes have had power filtering changes, use the new Gold Loins KT66's and the recommend rectifier is now a 5U4.
Anyone using this combination on an older interstate?

Hey Erik
I ran the Gold Lion reissues in my Interstate. Nothing to come to, but they sounded great and never gave me any problems for the year or so I used it.

Do you know if you buy a set from the Tube Doc (link on Z's website) does that mean rebias is NOT required?

I would definitely recommend rebasing even if they are matched tubes. Doc has recommended bias of 36 mA for a Route 66.

It's not about matching. Matching is getting tubes that are similar. I'm talking about the rating. In rhe RT66 manual it says if yiu use tubes with the same rating you do not have to rebias.

Jaguarguy is not talking about matching, he is talking about idle plate dissipation. Dr. Z has recommended an idle plate dissipation of 36ma. The rating system you refer to is a general way of describing how a tube behaves in a specific operating environment. Tubes of the same rating are expected to generally behave in the same way in said operating environment. Although a rating system is not the most exact way to ensure proper bias of your output tubes, it should get you in the general ballpark. My recommendation: Take it to your tech if you are not electronically inclined or invest in a bias-rite/similar device and bias the amp to 36ma with matched tubes. Oh, by the way, welcome to Z-Talk!
