Question probably for someone who owns/ has owned both amps. I have had my Rx Jr for about 18 months. Comparing it with a friends Maz 18, is significantly louder than my JR. When I first got it I would run the master full up and the front volume at about 10 or 11 o'clock. Seemed loud enough then.I find i am now running master full and front vol about 2/3 o'clock to keep up. I had to replace the rec valve, just stopped for no apparent reason, thought that may have caused the vol drop. I have replaced all the tubes, power and pre but it hasnt made any difference. Any ideas would be appreciated, next step, take it to a tech and get a through check done on it. I did run it for a while with the boost permanently on but it kept blowing a fuse. It does seem to get quite hot. Running a gold in it at the momen

You may need new tubes - 18 month if you've not replaced them and use regularly is a long time.

What speakers are in both amps? Rx jr often has a greenback which is 98db, Maz jr often has a g12h30 which is 100 db. That would cause a significant difference in total volume between two similar wattage amps.

He stated it has a gold in it and still has a hard time keeping up.
iv never played a maz18 but my JR is LOUD! It had a blue in it, and I swapped it with a green back and it's still loud. I can't imagine a max being that much louder. I'd try the tubes as well.

Blowing the fuse with the boost on is definitely not normal. I would do a full tube replacement as others have said, except maybe the rec tube if it's new. The maz is a little louder than the rx jr, or not so much louder but does have more headroom.
If new tubes don't do it for then it might be a good time to send it in to Dr Z for a checkup.

Running a gold in it at the moment Switched it on this morning (22nd) to do some practice, lasted about 2 minutes and then started loud buzzing, looked in the back and one of the output tubes was was glowing purple. Is that what is referred to as 'red plate?'. Anyway, replaced both el84s, again, it seems to be alright now although havent played it for more than about 10 mins before coming on to the forum. I think I will copy and paste this to the problem section.

I've had both.. Even though I liked the tone of the RxJr better, it couldn't hang with my loud drummer whereas the Maz18 had no problems. They were both heads and ran through the exact same cab and speaker.
Just my input.

Rx Jr. is 15 Watts and the Maz Jr. is 18 Watts. The Master Volume designs are different and they are two different beasts. Rx Jr. can hang with anything I need to do.
