hey guys, i'm new so go easy on me. i recently purchased a delta 88 and really dig it, but i feel like it could use a little tightening up and have been curious about solid state rectifier plug ins, like the groove tubes and the weber copper cap. if anyone has any thoughts on this it would be appreciated.

Hey there Randy!!
Welcome to the Dr. Z family. I have heard good tings on the Groove Tubes Solid State (S.S.) rectifiers. I have not tried one myself though. Myles, on this forum, is a guru over at Groove Tubes. Hopefully he will chime in on this one. I know that Dr. Z ships some of the KT-45s with SS rectifiers. NOTE: You will have to re-bias the amp if you put in a S.S. rectifier but outside of that I can not see it causing any issues and should tighten/quicken the attack of the amp. Don't worry on people taking your questions harshly on this forum. Nothing but a great bunch of folks on this board who are looking to share great tone and ideas with others.
Tell me more about the Delta 88. I have not heard one in person yet....what do you think of it sound wise?
Paul

thanks for the kind welcome paul. i'm really happy about the 88, i was playing a 100 watt jmp and was looking for something quite a bit cleaner, and i got just that. it really made me realize that i have to practice more. the only z experience i had before getting the 88 was with a carmen gia and i did expect the 88 to sound more similiar to the gia than it does but i think i've found a unique sounding amp that i'm really happy about.

I use a solid state rectifier in mine. The amp puts out 32 volts into 8 ohms .... 128 or so watts. So much for that "88" watt rating

Paul Paul, Actually ... if the amp has the stock factory bias I find it a bit on the cold side and if you just pop in the solid state plug in and leave things alone the amp will be biased more to my personal liking and nowhere close yet to where you can push it with ease if you want to rebias.

Myles,
Thanks for the heads up on that. Great info to have in the back pocket. I would not mind getting a Delta 88 myself one day soon.
