No worries, bro--hijack away! I love a little EZG talk myself--it's a GREAT amp. One of the (relatively) unsung gems of the Z lineup. Anybody that's looking for blackface-but-better should definitely try out an EZG!

Haha, good one! Leo would be smiling. Nick, Nice p-90 selections. Sweet Jazz Masters. EZGbiscuit sorry to highjack your thread. All this EZG talk is so good to read. Thanks Drew. I'm actually down to just the one p-90 guitar now (the LP). Not quite sure how I wound up in this position given that they are probably my favorite pickup. I'm so glad that I gave the EZG another try after my dissapointing first experience.

And you already had the 4x10

Thanks, Mike! Yeah--a little bit of serendipity on the cab--like it was meant tobe! They really are a perfect match--the 4x10 wants to be driven a little bit.

I'll post my impressions of the EZG with a 1x12 Gold cab in a week or two. I'm having so much fun feeling out the controls on the amp with different guitars\pups that I haven't wanted to introduce other variables like different cabs or any pedals yet. Others are probably not so methodical about the process.

What's it like with the. 1x12 gold? Great! I messed with it for maybe 20 minutes and it sounds terrific. It'b be a fantastic gigging rig, for sure!

Is there any breakup and reasonable volumes or do you just buy the amp for clean headroom? Big bold sounds?

Is there any breakup and reasonable volumes or do you just buy the amp for clean headroom? Big bold sounds? Actually, already having the Z-28, I bought the amp primarily for big bold cleans and they are there for sure until the amp is pretty loud. The (very musical) breakup happens earlier on the volume than I was expecting. It is not a Twin in that respect but was never advertized to be that. My Ray had more clean headroom than the EZG through the same cab. Once I'm comfortable with how the pre\post interaction works as far as the settings which produce the most\least headroom, I may start playing with 12AY7s or 5751s in V1. I have some really nice NOS preamp tubes left over from my long affair with tweed amps. Having purchased this used, I also should check the bias at some point but I'm having so much fun playing it that I'm in no hurry to do anything right now.

What Ridge said. Depends on the definition of reasonable. But as I say, for me what kills about the EZG is the quality of the breakup when it's driven with a good pedal. Or pretty much any pedal. It's just stellar. Just the right kind of hair to my ear.

Finally set the EZG and 4x10 up together again. Oh yes indeed. Need to stick the Air Brake in there tomorrow so I can really punch the controls.

Well, I might have to take you up on this tomorrow Keith ...an now there's a new EZG 50 red/tan head on its way to Eastern Canada My dealer (Long & McQuade)had a spanky brand new one sitting in their National distribution warehouse. So, I figured....why not so I'm having it shipped to me This means I have to defer my Crook build, but it's a small price to pay. Keith

Congratulations, I hope you like it. The red\tan is a cool combination. I'm still enjoying mine and I actually get to play it out live for the first time later this week so that's exciting. Let it spread its wings a bit (limited by the boat anchor of my playing).
In looking through this thread, I realized that I promised a review of the EZG\Gold after I had used it for a while. It sounds very nice through the 1x12 Gold cab (everything does) but I think the character of this particular amp comes out better through my 2x12 open back pine cab with the Weber 12A150\12F150 combination. Just better matches up with the sound I am looking for with the EZG. With the Z-28, it's a toss up betweeen the two cabs. They both sound wonderful with that amp.

You know....I blame/credit this thread for my EZG grab this weekend! LOL! Great amp...if you don't have one yet, get one. Go hungry, sell a child, ....whatever it takes.

Hey guys I just saw a country act called Whitey Morgan and the 78's. He was playing an EZG50 and it sounded huge. I had no idea I needed a chorus pedal. But that may be another thread. Seriously it was great sounding big but not flubby at all. Just like the folks have been saying he has no problem cutting in the mix but with round clean tones so to speak. I can't help but think that is hard to do.

I can't help but think that is hard to do. That's one of the other "secrets" of Dr. Z. His amps are voiced to sound great and cut through in a live situation. Above all Doc wants his amps played live and loud and in front of as many happy listeners as possible. Sometimes they don't sound "right" in a bedroom or basement situation but you get them cooking with a band and it all becomes clear. (no pun intended)
