I recently had an intermittent problem with the reverb in my Maz 38 head. I've traced it to a broken wire where it joins the connector which in turn pushes onto the transducer pin. I have now done away with the connectors at both the input and output transducers, and soldered the wires directly to the pins. However, this was not easy to do and I can see that the wires may break again in time. So, I'm thinking of ordering a replacement tank anyway. Has anyone here compared the modern Far eastern Accutronics/Belton units with the MOD equivalent? I need the 8AB2A1B tank, and I've heard that the MOD tanks sound a bit darker, with a bit less reverb than the Accutronics, though the MOD units are better made.
Any knowledge out there?
I hope it's OK to also post this in the Amp Questions/Troubleshooting section!

I believe that Doc uses the Mod units in production amps now.

Just in case anyone has a similar issue, the MOD sounds very nice, but will not fit in the same position as the original Accutronics unit. In my Maz head the tank is attached to the underside of the cabinet top, on the left viewing from the back, and hard up against the front. Firstly I had to order a new pair of cables as the input and output phonos protrude about 3mm more than on the Accutronics, and with the MOD the plugs wouldn't fit in between the tank and the cab. The new cables solved that problem, but then I discovered the MOD tank is approximately 2mm deeper than the Accutronics, so once I had screwed it in place I couldn't get the amp chassis back in the cab, as the main transformer was touching the reverb tank. I've now repaired the original Accutronics and have gone back to using that; I'll have to keep the MOD as a spare for when the original finally becomes unrepairable. When that happens the MOD will have to be mounted on its side, inside the front panel, as I believe the current ones are. I hope it fits.
I thought this was going to be a straightforward swap; by now I should know better.

Well, it's happened, the Accutronics broke down again, so I've mounted the MOD unit on the inside of the front panel. I hate making more holes in the cab, even though they're on the inside, but needs must. It fits OK there, and so far sounds good, a bit less noisy than the old tank too. I read that the 8AB2A1B is designed to be mounted horizontally, open side down though, and I've had to mount mine on its side horizontally, connectors down. Don't know how much difference that will make. According to Accutronics' info I need an 8AB2A1C, but I think the doc still uses the one i have.
