Hi guys, I have read the awesome Myles's blog but some stuff isn't clear. I live in Italy so I have to find a seller that can test the tubes. I can't ask for so many test (ie plate current, transconductance, plate resistance, gp, gain etc etc): are there 1 or 2 test more important? Ie I can see that plate resistance is strictly related with plate current, so probably one of this test is enough.
Another question: what are the value that I have to ask for EL84?
Thanks a lot
Marco

All parameters are important. Plate resistance is very important but cannot be measured by simple and more common test equipment, it requires specialized test equipment.
Don't get too tied up in the data. If it sounds good in your amp it is good. Just carry known good spares on gigs.
On EL84s the JJ is still the best current production tube from my point of view but others have their favorites too. Just get a tube that meets proper design spec for plate current .... 48mA at design spec settings.
