Was crusing TGP and found a great deal on a great condition Black SRZ 65, could not resist. Got it today. Could not play it loud but it has a nice AC/ DC vibe to it. it sound good with Strat, Tele, Gretch but it rocked with the LP. I like it

JUST CURIOUS? was this one Ches's? SRZ from here on the forum? or Ledzep619? or something like that screen name? Anywho... you have an amazing amp ! CONGRATS!!! IT does way more than Rock, It can be a used for semi Cleans too. I would suggest Invest in some Good NOS Pre amp tubes and try the KT77's in the Power section. MY SRZ is My #1 always has been and Always will be my Go to amp, What Cab/speakers are you using?

thanks. No, it did not belong to either of them. What I discovered today was that with the master full and then adjusting gain I could get some nasty cleans out of the tele. I think I will eventually go with KT77 but for now I will enjoy the EL34

Killer amp. I think these days folks are scared away by the 60 watts, but the master can easily tame the amp so you can use it at pretty much any volume you would need in a gig setting.

I just got one myself (from Ches) and it rocks. Didn't know you can throw KT77 tubes in it. Does it need a rebias if I switch from EL34 to KT77? What are the tonal differences?

Matt - Glad you're still liking the SRZ. It really does rock! The Rem fits me like a glove!
You need to rebias even if you change to a new set of EL34's unless you have a matched quad. It's always best to check, though. The Mullards should be close to the pair that's in the amp now, but I'm certain the GT's that came with it weren't. Not sure about the JJ's.
There are a couple threads in here about KT77's and how it affects tone and output volume. I believe it makes it louder, which is why I never tried it!
Congrats to both of you! The SRZ is a killer amp! Brian

thanks. I am sticking with El34 for a a while. My walls would not be able to handle Kt77 right now

The 77's will give the amp huge BOTTOM and a Sweeter Midrange, Yes the 77's will sound a Bit louder and Punchier. The 34's are great but I LOVE The 77's Congrats to both of you having SRZ's Every tone from SRV, To EVH and then some.

Do you mean less pronounced?

BTW - Had my first band rehearsal with the SRZ today. Band felt it cut through a lot more than my other amps. Just love how it takes me distortion and overdrive pedals as well. Very pleased!

The SRZ has a well balanced Mid Output IMO. It isn't really Mid Heavy Which is why it takes Pedals so well and still cuts through the mix with ease. The 77's give it a creamier Midrange similar to a Plexi Circuit or the Remedy/Antidote. I have heard some mention the SRZ can be BRight? , Not mine. I have the treble almost always almost Cranked well, around 400 oclock anyway. I have experienced that some of the Newer EL34's make the SRZ not sound as good as it should or can sound. I have been using 77's going on about 2.5 years I don't think I'll go back unless I stumble across a NOS set of MUllards or RCA Black Plate 34's The 77's also take some of the fizz off the Top end but In a good way. When you need tubes give them a try you may or may not like what you hear but most likely you will LOVE What pours out of your Cab,

No need for stinking OD pedals with that amp mine bites hard with just the EL34 and seriously, no pedals and I get a hell of a bite. On one occasion i did push the amp a bit with an EP booster and it just added more sweetness but it is awesome all alone

try a klon pedal, BB, or something really gritty, it will put you in 80's rock territory quickly. The amp is a beast at 3;00-fully dimed, I have had the opportunity to play this bad boy with a full stack 4x12 EVM/L & V30 loaded cabs, HUGE ROCK TONE!!!!!!

OMG, you have GOT to try the Rock Box Boiling Point!
i bought Westcoast's a few months back, its all I have on my board now.
I can get all kinds of sounds out of that pedal with my strats. The SRZ's love it too. I have long been an champion of the Wampler Superplextortion and Xotic AC booster. Neither of which are required anymore.
I do use an SL drive on my board but that is for a wee clean boost on the Deluxe Reverb.
