I have a 65 fender twin reverb reissue that I use for bigger shows where I need more power, mostly out door shows. I love the cleans on it. I just aquired a maz 18 which I absolutely love and will be my main gigging amp probably here on in. But on those occasions where i may need more, how is the ezg 50 compared to a twin? any opinions? I own an ac30, a princeton, a maz 18 and the twin and Im seriously thinking of dumping all the fenders and vox and just staying with the Z's now that I have the maz. I love my maz 18 and wonder, would I love the EZG 50 as much? would it be more loveable than the twin reverb reissue?

I think you'll be surprised how wide the sweet spot is on the EZG-50. Compared to a Twin, which I to me sounds good only run very loud on the edge clipping (85+ watts), the EZG can sound full and harmonically complex nearly anywhere on the dial.
I will say that I don't feel like the EZG has quite the abundant headroom as some people on the forum claim. I know some never get any gain out of the EZG- that's just not the case for me because I run the pre up fairly high and the post to taste depending on the situation. Still, it's a great amount of headroom for almost any venue and I would subjectively say that I prefer the EZG tone to modern Fender amps of any type. A 90's Vibro-King (60 watt, 3x10 combo) is a strong contender IMHO though, as are many vintage Fenders like a 62 Bassman, 65 Super Reverb, 69 Bandmaster Reverb, etc.
The EZG is reliable, complex tonally and has sweet reverb. Best of luck!

Im basically looking for a Z that will match the fat thickness and cleans of a fender amp, ala stevie Ray. would the EZG 50 be it? I know after buying my maz 18 last week, Im loving it. I just need something bigger to keep on hand for when bigger venues/shows present themselves and I need more than the 18. I run a pedalboard for all amps as well if that matters

Gents, the greatest EZG video ever:
Note the grit on this dimed EZG-50.

FAT Fender type cleans with a more subtle EQ set and sweeter reverb. Be aware that if you need more extreme EQ cuts/boosts than a typical Fender 40-60 watt amp, that an EQ pedal might be in order.
Also, while it's not the most versatile amp ever, it's fat, thick and an easy amp to dial in, in my experience.
Enjoy the search!

I have owned a few twins and liked them but they did not even begin to compare to the EZG in tone.

Hmm, sounds to me that I need to sell the twin to purchase an EZG. How well do they fare with a 1x12 Z cabinet? My maz 18 is in head and cabinet form, and I suppose I could just buy the EZG head and pair it with the regular Z 1x12 cab when needed. I guess thats the plus side of going head/cab combo

I've played a fender twin for at least 20 years as my main gigging amp. great amp, heavy as hell, seems to get heavier.
I also have the EZG head, the advantage of just the head, is you can switch cabs based on requirements, i have a blue and a gold in separate cabinets and when i use the gold for more standards, jazz gigs. i pair with a blue for other jobs. while not a light weight, and maybe two trips, but easier to handle and to me same great sound with a little more versatility.
