Any good ones out there? Tired of paying NOS prices.

I have 3 NOS sitting here and have not even tried a single one since the one that came in my Z28 sounds so good.
I have 2 Dario's, (thanks of your tip Jon!) a Mullard NOS. I heard Myles say the Tung-Sol Gold Pin was the best new EF86. Got one of those too, but not tried it either.

I have been disappointed in the new production EF86's I have tried. Unlike power tubes, NOS EF86s can last for a long time. In the long run, it may actually be cheaper to buy NOS rather than plunking in a new production tube every year or two. Just my $0.02.

I recently put JJs in my KT45 and Route 66; they seem fine so far, but I'm not a real purist on tubes.

The Tung Sol EF806 is the one that has the best curve traces and is the most consistent at the moment. It is a pretty nice tube and even gives some NOS a run for the money. Many of the NOS ones have issues these days from some vendors who are scraping the bottom of the bucket for these. There are also MANY "NOS" EF86 tubes on ebay that are fakes ... Sovtek tubes which have been re-screened. Here is one link to the EF806 - www.tubedepot.com/ts-ef806.html
