A bit of advice required here from the Galaxie gurus.
Channel 1 sounds great and I usually use the clean channel when gigging. However, I tried the lead channel recently and it sounded terrible, just crackling and totally messed up.
I have a complete new set of tubes, I swapped them all out, and it made no difference. Aghh!
I can gig with the amp as is, but feel a little nervous about there being an issue with the amp since it's my go-to dependable amp that should have no problems. Now I feel I need a back up amp every time I gig, which is several times a week.
A couple of questions....
Has this happened to anyone else? If so, do you know what caused the problem? Question two, I live in Canada. If I were to send this off to get fixed, is there a Dr.Z technician that is recommended in Vancouver Canada, or do I have to send the amp off to the US to get fixed?
Cheers, Pete

Cheers Jamie, thanks for the feedback, appreciate it. I guess I'll take it to a local amp tech and see if it's something simple to fix.

Here is Doc's trouble shooting method. If you just changed everything all at once you'll never know what the problem is - you could have put another bad tube in (quality of new tubes continues to fall). Try this technique first - you might find what the problem is quicker than a tech can.

So, the problem was solved.
I tested the amp one tube at the time (good advice from Mike) and it didn't seem like a tube issue. I have three sets of the same tubes - older tubes that worked fine before and were swapped out simply because they were older.
I then bypassed the attenuator. Still the same problem.
I then looked at the Dr.Z foot-switch. I have an old Z foot switch lying around, and popped that in, and the lead channel kicked in just fine!
Really interesting that a simple foot switch can create this problem. The bad Dr. Z foot-switch did the same thing to my Mesa Boogie Studio amp too - totally messed up the lead channel. Weird eh! I'm glad it's not the amp. All good now. Thanks for your help.
