Hi guys, after seeing the Dave Baker video, I made up my mind that the Monza is it for me. I'm just now waiting for Humbucker Music to send me the invoice for deposit to start the build(I need it to be in 220-240v as I stay in Singapore).
However, I'm still not sure if what I'm hearing is a gainy Vox sound or a crunchy Marshall as they can sometimes overlap in sound. For those who own/have owned the Monza, how would you describe its actual gain voicing and feel? Does it lean more on the Vox or Marshall camp?
I'm aware too that on max setting it has that fuzzy sound but what if it's just on 2 o clock gain? I also keep reading the "Billy in a box" comments and have also seen the Z-Fest vid of it. But which Billy Gibbons tone are you guys really referring to since the Rev is known for using lots of gear thru the years and albums.

first of all, I am by no means an expert .... but I will try 'n' give a bit of my recent and past play experience to my hearing, I got crunchy Marshall and plenny of other goodness going on with a non-Master Volume Monza head thru either an old Z 112 cab (V30) and/or old Z 210 cab (stock standard Dr Z speakers) ..... straight-in, no effects (not even my beloved Flying Dragons or Draconis) there is plenny of sustain, attack, drive, gain and grain in various applications - I know, sounds like a rather vague and generalized reply - primarily with a Les Paul, PRS SC245, SG and Stratocaster sure, I can get some good wood-y tones - and have been tempted to run a Ric thru the set-up ..... and I wonder if that mite help me with the possible Vox-ness that I have not necessarily been lookin' for but I love going from a somewhat clean to a magnificent mean without havin' the neighbours make a big scream ..... (almost rhymed that one, eh) - it is plenny loud ...... as for the Billy G reference - I aint got mucha handle on that one bestest regards and cheers always, Joel

Monza has more of the ZZ Top "LaGrange" tones....similar, but not-so-much as the "Just got Paid" tones....

Thanks for your replies. It seems I can't get it from Humbucker music anymore as we have a dealer here. I'd rather buy elsewhere as I'm reluctant on their kind of service but I guess I don't have a choice at all because of the dealership policies.
The La Grange tone is one of my favorite rhyhm and lead tones along wih Tush so it's great news to me.

Been playin' last nite and a lil' bit more today .... definitely got a Marshall-vibe goin' on with a lil' bit of pushed Fnder tones too ..... aint sure if it is the 210 cab or the Les Paul - but apparently I got some volume goin' on as of late with settings of Vol @ 9:30 Drive @ 11:30 and tone @ 12:30 with guitar volume just "slightly" opened up ...... I like it - aint sure 'bout the rest of the family or neighbors tho' ..... cheers always, Joel

The likelihood of your Monza breaking down is almost nil. Despite your concerns about yer local dealer, Doc Z will take care of you. We all love Humbucker Music, some of their staff are forum brothers here, but if that's Doc's policy, you can bet it's in place for a good reason. I understand your heartburn (I LOVE Humbucker, too) but I surely would not let that get in the way of getting a Dr Z amp. A lesser amp brand maybe, but not a Z....
