Great sounding amp, especially with humbuckers. Still working on dialing in for my T-style guitar, but I think I'm getting close.
I do have one issue, though. The only cab I have right now is a converted MAZ combo 1x12. I need to put something in there for this weekend, and the highest power handling speaker I have is a 50 watt WGS Invader. I was thinking about a Creamback, either the G12M-65 or a G12H-75, IF I can find one locally. My SRZ sounds a bit bright, so the H may be the way to go, but I'm no expert by any means. A G12T-75 might work, as well, but I'd prefer to order the WGS version.
Just curious if anyone has tried a Creamback or G12T-75. I read the "what speaker" posts, and it seems like the G12-65 and Mesa speakers are a favorite. I'm a big fan of the Mesa speaker. Also, do you think a 50 watt Invader will be fine for a 3 hour gig? We're going to be mic'd, so I won't have to crank the amp.
Thanks - Brian

Thanks! The G12-65 seems to be the favorite around here! I'm going to see if I can find one today, either a Heritage or Creamback. I like my WGS Reaper with the SRZ, but if I crank the amp at all I'll probably exceed the recommended specifications! Since we're playing outdoors on Saturday, there's a good chance I'll open it up at some point. Since my initial post, I checked the bias and the amp was maxed out at over 50 mA according to my Weber Bias Rite. I put in a pair of Winged C EL34's, backed the bias down to 34 mA, and the brightness/harshness is gone. This is exactly what I was looking for, and I have a feeling my Top Hat is about to go on the block!

Hey Ches Welcome to the SRZ CLUB, One of the Best AMPS The Doc has Put out to this Date. Once you get really familiar with the SRZ give a Pair of KT77's a try, sounds Even Better, yes I know its Hard to Believe but it will. I love My SRZ with 2x12 and 4x12 Cabs, The EVM/L's and Greenbacks are SWEEEET!!!

Thanks, Jamie. I think the SRZ is exactly what I've been looking for. We played an outdoor gig yesterday . . . well, we started an outdoor gig yesterday . . . and the SRZ sounded fantastic. I found a used 16 ohm G12T-75, put it in a 1x12 cab that I modified to have a small opening directly behind the speaker, added a touch of insulation around the outside, and it was pretty darn close to perfect. I'm going to pick up an Air Brake at some point so I can really open it up.
As for the gig, we were 4 songs into the first set when a storm whipped in. We were under cover, but I took the SRZ off the cab and set it further inside the covered area. I also covered the cab and put my guitar in the case. About 5 minutes later, the rain is coming sideways, cymbals are flying all over the stage area, my 1x12 was knocked down, and the bass players head was blown off his stack. Not good. When I went to get my car to load out, I was in a low area of the parking lot and water was up to the doors of my Taurus. Yikes.
I spent last night disassembling my gear and blow drying the insides. Everything will be fine, but I really wanted to play!!

WOW!!!Im sure it will all be good. The SRZ is a Beast but it has one of the BEST MASTER VOLUMES EVER. I have used mine in various ways but I have found that whatever sound you're chasing the SRZ can cover it. My Favorite..... the Volume at 2-3:00 oclock the Gain about at 9:00-10:00 use the volume knob to control , a mild OD to get into Nasty Singing Sustain!!!! The SRZ takes Pedals amazingly too. The harder you push it.... the better it sounds

In order to get the volume up to 2-3:00, I'm going to need an Air Brake! I'm already on the prowl for a used one. I had my gain set in that 9-10:00 range, but I had to dial the master down to a similar level since we were running everything through the PA. Still sounded great, but I imagine it'll sound better with the master up to noon or higher!

I really like mine with the master around noon-2 o'clock, gain around 10' o clock and then an Air Brake around 2 clicks - it's the perfect volume for my situation. Beautiful cleans with the guitar volume rolled back, great crunch with the volume up then, hit it with a tubescreamer for leads Plus as the night goes on you can always click the Airbrake back. I find that the master needs to be around 11 at least to get the gain sounding right. If you have the master very low and crank the gain it just sounds far too compressed to me.
I'm using a WGS ET-65/Retro 30 mix but I'm interested in taking the Retro 30 out of the equation - the SRZ, like most Marshall circuits is bright. Recorded through the ET-65 it sounds killer though. The ET-65 is a G12-65 clone.

Yes I agree GreenBack Celestion are perfect for the SRZ I'm living on the edge right now only one 25 watt GreenBack in a 1x12 Traynor Cab sounds unreal. I just have to be careful not to blow it till I get a Cream back or run another greenback in a another 1x12. Vic from Vancouver Canada.
