This question goes to the Doc himself or someone on his staff. I just have to ask, with PPIMVs appearing on some of the already in production amps, has there been any consideration to a PPIMV or some other form of a master volume in the Ray? If there is another type of MV. It is a cathode self biased amp so that is a good, but I understand that tone would be the most important factor with such a change. The tone of the Ray is excellent, so we can't change that, just want it less loud and have the ability to turn up past 9 o'clock live, air braked down to 4 clicks.
Thanks,
Jerry

I'm curious about this as well.. Is this a possible mod? If not, I assume the cut control has something to do with it...

If I remember one of Dr. Z's statements correctly from his DVD video, I believe you cannot have a PPI-MV and a "cut" control together on the same amp. Traditional "master" yes (e.g., MAZ amps), but post-phase-inverter master, no.
(If anybody's more knowledgeable about this, please correct me—but I'm pretty sure the Doc himself talked about this.)

speaking of negative impacts on tone, I always wondered why the StangRay, basically a clean amp, has an effects loop. I would think this one amp wouldn't need an effects loop at all.. If the Stangray didn't have that effects loop, would it be even better sounding?

I also remember something along those lines.
