Well after reading Frank's post about finally getting a BL and some great tips on proper usage, I thought it was time for me to give the BL another shot. I've been a victim of the old volume thing lately so a BL just may be the answer. The last time I had one, I didn't care for it because I felt it was taking too much away from the overall feel of the amp (Maz JR). The thing I was doing was setting my tone non attenuated and going from there...based on the tips that you guys posted, I should have done it the other way...set my tone on the most attenuation and bring it up click by click if I need more. I found a BL here in the forum, thanks Mike (surfhard) for the deal. Looking forward to it! Wife says I can't have it til father's day...we'll see.

I think you're gonna like it Mark! Really worked well for me. Wanna get it sooner? Just play loud every evening - your wife will hand it over real quick

HA HA!!! Well, she's put up with a hard hitting drummer boy for the last 5 years...I don't know if that'll work or not.

You'll approach it with different ears this time, Mark.
I just did some recording with the Ghia and the BL was on 3 throughout. I'm quite pleased with the resulting guitar sound. I'll post some of it once I have the final version in hand.

Congrats on round 2 Mark. It took me a while to get it too. Now I have one mounted in my Maz Jr and it stays on 2 clicks most all times. Good to know I have more if I need it.....or can cut it even more for super low volume needs. Hurry up Fathers Day!!

I got my brake lite installed and had a go with it. Taking the advice of starting with the most attenuation and going from there I started turning, twisting, strumming, dialing more, strumming more, tweaking my drive and boost pedals and I just could not get anything I liked on 4. I was really disappointed. If one were going straight guitar, cable and amp, it could be something workable, YMMV. Now, saying that, I clicked back to 3...there it is!!! I was able to get it to cooperate with my pedals...and the amp dials. 2...yeah baby! Never did go to 1 as it was great at 2-3. 4 just choked everything out to my ears anyway. No matter what I tried or where I placed any of the knobs, it just wasn't working. I found this is what it was like last time. I wanted another go at a Brake Lite because I thought it was me trying to set my tone then attenuate. I've tried the reverse, it's helped some. As I say 2 or 3 and most likely 1 click is fantastic!!! 4 is not working for me. I'm keeping this one as I will benefit from having it in there for band practices and gigs. It should keep the volume police at bay.

This sounds a lot like what I found Mark. I start with 3 clicks and set up my sound and settings. I noticed if I did it at 4 clicks I couldn't find what I wanted. But at 2 and 3 that's where the magic happens. That is where I've had mine at gigs. 1 click is great at places where you can open things up , but it knocks off just enough to keep thing from getting way too loud. I think 4 might be OK for "bedroom" use , but the other positions just work so well at gigs and rehearsals.

I don't use 4 clicks on the BL really at all. Mostly I live at 3, which sounds great to my ear. 4 just squishes everything too much--it's the "bedroom" setting, for sure.

Thanks guys, I was beginning to think there was something weird going on with me or my setup...I appreciate the feedback! 2 and 3 it is!

I wonder if some of the "not so good on 4" is amp dependent. I have the same feeling as you guys when using a MAZ, Z-28, Ghia, but "4" seems fine with the Antidote and the Air Brake on 4 with the Z Wreck is fine too.

It very well could be the case Mike...I know at 4, the ONLY way I could really enjoy it was to keep my pedals totally out of the equation. If I turned them on at all it was just awful...again, someone else could totally dial it in to their liking.

Good point, Mike--the Remedy sounds just fine on 4 clicks.

Congrats Mark. I have one in my JAZ. I think it works great in that on 2. Scrubs off just enough, but I'm not using od pedals with that amp. I use the BL to avoid them with that amp. I had good results with the BL and Remedy / MaZ as well. It was a no go in the Monza though imo. So as mentioned it might be amp dependent to some extent. Looks like you have got good tips for setting it up.
Have fun with it.
I just leave it set on 2 and eq. Just forget about it. In the unlikely event someone tells you to turn up, click up a notch lol.

Love the Brake Lite with the Antidote. All settings are useable. Yes, 4 is a little compressed/nutured, but I can use that sound! It is a tool which I like, others may not. Try it and see. It's not too expensive, less than a lot of pedals. You could sell off some boost pedals if you did the amp distortion at the lower volume the BL will let you play at.
