Actually finding it a bit easier to manage the Rem with the EQ bypass/bump either always on or always off. Tricky to get the right rhythm crunch with it off and then a useable lead tone with it on--possible, but tricky. Could just leave it on and use the guitar volume, though--that would work very, very well. Interesting Jon, and having had more time with the Remedy at home last night, I found that it depends on where the Tones are set - the nearer noon they are, the less dramatic the tonal change when the Bypass is kicked in. I still have my EP on the board, set to about the same boost as the Bypass, and use that also for solo boosts depending on the song. In fact, when I need an extra oomph (to get past the keyboard player "giving it some") I kick them both on. The settings I like best are: B-11, M&T 1, both Vs 11, MV to taste, but minimum 10, and then 20W or 40W depending on venue (I really don't hear or feel a dramatic difference between the two beyond the pleasure of playing louder!). Also, I've given up trying to reduce my pedal board to as few as possible, and have out all my key pedals on there (7 plus tuner: EP, 2x OCD clones, RC (but I think I'll remove this one after next gig), AnaEcho, Carbon Copy, MP Electric Blue Chorus, Mooer Reverb) This lot covers the range of tones I need for all our covers songs without me having to keep bending down to change settings between songs. I'd rather enjoy changing guitars instead! Pete those are similar to my setting that I like. I ususally have my bass at 10 treble and mid at about 1 and high and normal at about 10-11. Master volume at about 2. These settings work great with both my strats and my les paul.

Okay, I've had some time living with these mods now, and a couple of full blown dress rehearsals, and I can confidently say that both of these mods have seriously improved the flexibility of the Remedy enormously. Tonight I was running the MV around noon; TMB around 11 o'clock (I'll explain this in a minute), and Vs around 11 o'clock too - mostly my LPS P(90 guitar -> pedal board with the EP at unity on a LOT of the time. Love that growly zing to the notes - mmmm! and then various pedals for colour and texture, and heavy dirt when needed. Anyway, back to to TMB settings. Picking up on something Mike (doctorice) said either on this thread, or elsewhere, about the level of volume bump on the EQ Bypass, I tried this out: if you lower the TMB settings, adjust the Vs to get your tone where you like it, then engaging the EQ Bypass gives you a bigger bump in volume. Conversely, setting TMB at say 1 o'clock then the EQ Bypass gives you a smaller bump. So good to be able to fine tune that bump to just where you want it!

^^^ Ha! I did not know that. Good to know, indeed. Changes my whole understanding of the bypass mod--now I've got to try it out. Again. Again again.

So it sounds like the consensus is, the mods are worth doing. I use a BL using 1 or 2 clicks for gigs. The trouble is I find the amp still pretty loud for some smaller venues.
My question is, will the MV allow me to keep the volume at a decent level while retaining some good crunch tones?
Any video clips of the new mods in action?

My question is, will the MV allow me to keep the volume at a decent level while retaining some good crunch tones? Any video clips of the new mods in action? Definitely! The MV does not suck the the tone until you get to below 9 o'clock. Of course, below about noon, the speaker's breakup ceases to be involved in the tone, but that doesn't bother me as the benefits of playing this amp at lower volumes FAR outweigh this. I was in exactly the same position as you regarding the Brake Lite, and indeed played one gig with it at 4 clicks. I think the Remedy handles the Brake Lite better than any Z amp I've played, but at 4 clicks I was definitely on the limit of useable tone, and had to use pedals for any grit / OD. With the MV, I have the amp set fairly clean (Vs at 11) and push with my GV and a clean boost (EP) most of the time, yet I can keep the output volume VERY manageable for any size gig - heck I can play like this at home and not have the neighbours wanting to kill me! I don't have the gear to make a good enough video to show the MV in action, but if you look at Dave Baker's video for the Monza with MV, you will get the idea - the Remedy sounds different of course, but the MV acts in the same way. As for the EQ Bypass, our Z brother roknfnrol has a few videos on his YouTube channel which are great. Here's one I like: You don't have to get both mods done, and although I LOVE The EQ Bypass mod, if I had to choose, I'd do the MV mod first, only because I really needed to tame the volume of the Remedy - btw, I only play on the 40W setting now, which I could never do even with the BL That being said, if you're going to send the amp in to the shop anyway, I'd go the whole hog and get both done, as I did. Have fun

Thanks Pete, this is exactly what I wanted to hear!
I have now sent Dr.Z an email requesting the upgrades. I have seen roknfnrol's video and like the EQ bypass mod.
I am a little bit hesitant sending the head on such a long trip though (eek).

I am a little bit hesitant sending the head on such a long trip though (eek). I assume you're USA based? I'm UK based, so had our Authorised Z Repair shop do it - I hand carried the head the 2 hour drive there, and collected it a couple of weeks later. It wasn't so much fear of damage, although that is certainly a consideration, but the flippin' cost over here The other great thing is, they will do a once-over of the whole amp when it's there - mine had a dodgy 12AX7 in V1 which was humming slightly. I never really noticed it, but the guys over here did, and replaced it FOC. Now THAT'S service!
