I have been wanting to swap speakers in my 2x12 Jr. for a while. A friend let me borrow his Avatar 1x12 with a Celestion blue to try and I love it. I think I am going to get a pair of Weber's, a 30 watt blue and a 30 watt silver. I am pretty sure I want alnico, and don't mind spending the money. I just want it to be way less harsh than the V30 & G12H30 that I have now. Do the ceramic and alnicos sound at all similar, or are they just the same color?

I'd mix the G12h30 and a Weber Blue dog. I'm looking at speaker upgrades and I've sort of come to the conclusion that 1 ceramic and 1 alnico is a good mix...
Sorry I can't offer you more experienced or intelligent commentary..

I too have a Jr NR 2x12 and have been doing daily speaker swapping. Many say the Weber Alnico Blue and a G12H but the G12H sounded ratty to me?!?!?! BUT, The weber with a well worn V30 sounds pretty dern good to me. This mix is my favorite so far in this amp.
I'm tempted to buy a second 30 watt Weber Alnico Blue Dog, that speaker is a great match for this amp.

I'm guessing that the Weber alnico blue and the Celestion blue sound pretty similar. That said I think the blue does take it to another level. Another thing people have said is that the alnico gets really compressed and breaks up a lot at high volumes, but I don't get to turn it up very loud anyway. I think that the 30 watt versions would take the power pretty well.

The alnico is more musical at lower volumes, to my ears. It just runs out of steam sooner, so to speak....
Of course, my main reference for ceramic tone are EVMs and Greenbacks, so ymmv.

The Blue/Silver combo is killer!
Either ceramic or Alnico, both are smooth and sound great - none of the harshness you're mentioning.
The Ceramic have a more present attack on the high end and a much tighter bass - more headroom overall. The Alnico have a softer high end (chime) and a softer bass - more compressed when hit hard (less headroom) - but smoother.
Might consider mixing an Alnico Blue and a Ceramic Silver - keep the soft chime/smooth drive and the tighter bass/high-end attack.
Will also add that tele62's amp with the Weber Blue Alnico/Vintage 30 combo sounds wonderful - better than the Weber Blue Alnico/G12H30 combo I have in mine.

I like my Weber Alnico Blue Dog with the G12H30 with my Stingray. The Vintage 30 is a strange bird to me. I had it in a Zbest with my MAZ 38, and didn't like it at all. Too much upper mid honk for me. But on the other hand, I've heard a pair of them with a Carr Slant 6 and it sounded like heaven. Go figure.
However you end up, I would definitely try to stick to the Alnico/Ceramic mix. I think you'll like it!

A Blue Dog might be what I need for mine. I'm running two G12H30s and I love the punch and clarity but I do find it a bit harsh, was thinking about a Blue Dog Alnico. Anyone try that combo with a 45?

Well, after a lot of consideration I am going to order the ceramic pair. Many folks here, and Mr weber, say that they will give me what I'm looking for. I'm not heart broken about the price being less than the alnico's.

I heard elsewere on the forum that the Silver Bell sounds like a good broken in Greenback. Anybody else agree with this statement? Does one Silver Bell and one G12H30 sound good?
