Congratulations on picking up a great rig. IMHO it takes a lot experimentation to find all kinds of cool tones from the Stangray. And those speakers will be bright out of the box but will smooth out once they settle in (broken in).

I play about 15-20 hours a week.

I play about 15-20 hours a week. I've sped up the break in time (for my part) by hooking my cab to a small PA head or solid state amp and ran my iPod through it at "stage volume" 8-10 hours a day while I was at work. I did that for about 2 weeks, plus had a couple gigs on it and it still took a few more shows to break in completely... Actually, after the initial break-in (where I noticed the most change) it still changed a little over the next year.

Stangray arrived safe n sound. Seemed to take forever to get it unpacked as I was anxious to hear and play it. The first hour flew by but initial reaction is just AWESOME..The very tone I thought would be there is there and so much more. Someday I will stop to take a pic of it but Dr Z builds not only a wonderful sounding amp but a wonderful looking amp, I am proud to own my first Dr Z.. I appreciate all the questions answered on this forum and appreciate Jake at Humbucker for giving me his time in getting this amp. More to come as I get used to this tone machine. A single-coil players dream.

Big congrats on your new Stangray! I've seen you around here for a couple of years. Even talked to you about buying one of my used Z's. Glad you broke down and got you a new one. Jake @ Humbucker is awesome too, huh. So...what's your next Z gonna be?

With the CSA rating, does the new Ray head have the IEC cord or is it still attached? Keith

Some on the forum have mentioned the Ray is picky with pedals, I haven't found any I own that the Ray doesn't like. OD pedals also, Wampler Paisley, Wampler Black 65, Brent Mason Hot Wired, Durham Sexdrive are a few that seem to work well. It also seems to like my Flanger, Wampler Delay and Reverb pedals. I haven't tried the effects loop yet. Running everything in the front of amp. Only pedal I am using less is my compressor and mostly like it off.. The Ray is sweet

The Ray is sweet That may have been me, before I knew better. With my first Ray, I ran the tone and cut both up around 3:00... Lots of low end and lots of top end to compensate for the massive low end. When I used OD pedals with it, it sounded really nasty with everything except my old Tubescreamer. Jump ahead 4 years to my latest Ray, I've turned the tone down to about 11:00 and the cut down to about 10:00-11:00. Now, it's one of the most pedal friendly amps I've ever played and still has plenty of low end and top end. The way I previously had it, must have really scooped it out.

The Ray for sure has a bunch of low end and I did find I had to tweak a few things to get the spots I wanted to hear and still a lot to learn. I am running Tone around 12:00 to 1:00 and Cut around 10:00 and it takes the pedals well. I love the low end it has thru those 2 Gold's and can only imagine what it will sound like once broken in. A bunch of summer gigs should fix that.

I am on my 11th day of owning a Ray, what a sweet amp. I hope to post a pic of it this weekend with my guitar but most on the forum know what a Ray looks like so maybe not necessary. This amp is wonderful sounding and makes me really concentrate on form. It brings out the mistakes but makes the Right sound so Right. I am using a Crook Tele with a little Wampler Reverb thrown in. The perfect combo and the tone I have been seeking. If anyone was ever on the fence about a Ray like I was for awhile, go for it and you won't be sorry.
