All of my amps except one (DRRI) currently have alnico speakers. All Webers except for the Blue in the Maz combo. For a changeup, I was thinking about trying a Weber ceramic Silver Bell and Blue Dog combo in my 3\4 open back 2x12 cab. Are these speakers more designed for a closed back applications or have people had good results with open back cabs?
I would be running my Ghia head, Maz Jr NR, and (sometimes) my Victoria Double Deluxe through this cab. I'm looking for tight and clear tones with a British flavor and not as much speaker breakup as I'm getting with the alnicos. 30 or 50 watt?
Thanks.

I use mine in open back cabs (MAZ 18 and 38) and love them. Mine are 50 watts with moderate doping, ceramic. Great combo if you are after a vintage, smooth tone with some English on it...

Thanks for your input JChance. I have all these Weber, American flavor P12N alnicos that compress and break up nicely when pushed and thought that having a Brit flavored cab that would stay cleaner longer would be a nice change of pace. I assume that with two 50 watters, the only grind you get with the Maz 18 is from the tubes?

J DITTO, what J said..... I use the silver/ blue 50 watt ceramics in one of my 2x12 Z-cabs for a little tighter bottom out of the open back than the alnicos could give... mine are light dope. to me the Silver really adds that english/ greenback smooth n creamy sound to the more voxish/ chimey w/good bottom bluedog... very good pair in both Alnico and ceramic versons... and BTW these speakers were GREAT in my closed back Z-best but I put em in one of my open backs with just as good if not better results... and got exactly what I needed out of them, Which was exactly what J.Chance said plus I found they gave the cab higher headroom, tighter bottom... not harsh at all.... sounds great with my Stingray, Maz 38, RX ES and even the Ghia ( ORIGINALLY put them in for and to handle the higher powered RX and it does, but I've used it more with the Stingray, go figure... and sounds great).... If you just can't get used to Alnico's and just prefer/ like Ceramic's, these are great speakers... JChance helped me alot a while back when I started looking at the Webers/ speakers and he was right on the money! Weber fan since then... and been trying to spread the word ever since... have tried them and still trying them in as many different speaker cabs and varitations as possible... hard to find a variation of Webers I haven't liked... some seem to work better than others for certain amps in certain cabs... but all the ways and all the amps I've run them through have suprised me at how good they usually sound... the Dr Z amps you mentioned should all sound very good... the victoria should as well... I have the Victoria bassman and it sounds nice through Webers... I prefer it through the Alnicos but it is sweet through the Ceramics too... I recommend the 50 watt ceramic speakers in Blue/ Silver. should give you exactly what you mentioned your looking for.... 30 watters may work for the lower wattage amps you mentioned ( especially if your running a pair) but I really like my 50 watters.... and if you ever picked up/ needed a higher powered amp it would still be loud and clear.... Maz 38/ RX no problem... Jason

Thanks Jason. I am a big Weber fan as well. They were in all of my amps until I bought my Maz 18 combo with the Blue in it a couple of months ago. The Double Deluxe has a 12A150 \ 12A150B combo in it that really works well for that tweed vibe. Over the past 6 months I've sold off my larger amps and the 30 watt DD is now my most powerful amp (and it has a half power switch installed to bring it down to 15 watts for around the house). I had a Vicky bassman until about a month ago. It had Weber P10Q's and was a tone-monster. Thanks again for the input and opinions.
