Gang,
I am having a hard time getting that tele spank out of my Galaxie. My guitar is a Nash with Lollar pickups so I think on that aspect I am right on the money. Any suggestions for tone and volume settings as well as pentode/triode?

Have you checked the bias on your output tubes. Also, how old and what tubes do you have in what positions, are they good? If you picked it up pre-loved you might just want to do a complete tube change and bias it up correctly.

did some dummy clip your bright cap on the volume control? Lots of that going around these days. Mine will tear your head off if needed.

No mods and my Gal doesn't get much play. I think it is in my playing style. What do you all set your knobs at for a starting reference point?

Don't know if this will help you but this is what I did to my gal (mv)..Put an old Sylvania 12at7 in v1.. I have had tons of highend amps and can roll tubes with the best of gear hounds, but this was the single most awesome change I have ever heard from a simple v1 substitution..Gave the clean channel more chime and apparent headroom, but most importantly it gave the gain channel a much more gradual onset of gain.. Before, 9 or 10 oclock on the volume would give me all the usuable gain I could stand, then it went fuzzy any higher, MUCH more usable now without any tonal degradation..Still has all the gain you will ever need, but the sweep is much wider and tweakable..

Thanks for the tip. Think I will try that quick tube swap. Got to check my stash o tubes in the garage and see what I have.

So .... did u find that 'spank' or what ..... ?
MV mod or Galaxie w/presence control? Two very different situations IMHO .....
Cheers always,
Joel

tweaking tone controls more has got me more in the park. Going to sub the v1 position preamp tube next.
