I'm jonesin' for a 1x15" cab to go with my Zs. Anyone know which red tolex Z uses? Is it "levant" or "elephant?" I can't compare because my amps are at the studio, and my computer is at home. I have three red Zs, all built at different times, and the all match perfectly. I'd love it if the whole herd matched

If you look on the JDesign Cabs website under "options" they have the EXACT same Tolex in black & it's called "Nubby".

I have three red Zs, all built at different times, and the all match perfectly. I'd love it if the whole herd matched I'm 100% certain that it's elephant. I recently had a cabinet made by Mojo Musical supply to match my red Stingray head and elephant is what I ordered. While the grain appears to be a perfect match, my wife and daughter claim that they can see a slight difference in the shade of red between the two. I'm not color blind, but I don't see the difference. They say women see color better than men. The shading difference my be due to different runs/dye lots of the Tolex. Here is a link to Mojo's Tolex page. www.mojomusicalsupply.com/cgi-bin/mojotone/scan/co=yes/fi=products/rf=sku/sf=prod_group/se=Coverings/op=eq/sf=category/se=Tweed%20&%20Tolex/tf=brand Here is a picture of the head & cab to give you some idea.

thanks to everyone for the for the info! ;D I was thinking elephant too, but it's one of those "better safe..." situations.
guitarman1, how do you like the Mojo Cab? I'm going back and forth between pine or birch ply for the cab, and I was thinking about Mojo if I settled on birch.

I bought Mojo's el cheapo extension cab they have pictured on their home page. They start out at $200.00 and go up depending on grill cloth, piping, etc. The fit and finish is excellent, sounds great and no annoying cab buzz, but the jury still out on the baffle board. I was expecting a dado mounted baffle the same thickness as the sides of the cab. I was surprised (though I never asked) that they use a floating baffle (screwed onto wooden strips mounted on the sides) like the old Fenders and Carr amps have. It is also only 3/8 inches in thickness. This is the first cab I've owned like this and I was worried that it wouldn't support my heavy speakers (Emi Tonker & Wizard). After speaking with Mojo and searching around on the web, I find that many players like this design and the floating baffle is supposed to resonate more freely and help accentuate the bass response. Well, the cab has PLENTY of bass and resonates nicely. It's also the lightest 2x12, non-pine cab I've ever lifted and very compact. All-in-all, I'm happy with it......especially for the price. I just hope the baffle board holds up with those heavy Emis. BTW:The grill cloth is what Mojo calls Salt & Pepper, but it doesn't match Dr. Z's cloth. I prefer Dr. Z's.

guitarman1,
thanks again for the honest review. karma comin' your way.
I don't know if I'm going to need any more low end, considering the low end available on my Zs, plus the 15" speaker. maybe I'll go with a company that does a dado baffle...

Thanks for the karma Maction and good luck with your cab search. I did have two different cabs from Avatar that were very well built with a dado baffle on each. The place where they cut corners is on the removable grill frame . These frames are made with particle or fiber board.....heavy and cheap! They also use just about the lightest gauge possible for speaker wire, but that's a cheap and easy DIY fix. Other than these two complaints, they were really well built and structurally solid. Fit & finish was very good too.
