I'm overwhelmed by the sheer amount of choices out there in the 10" size, never mind 12"!
I'm going to be building a 9x10 for larger venues (I love the sound of 10s), and I want to pick speakers for it.
I'm looking for a 10" that sings like a silverface Fender 4x10, but has a little tighter bottom end. I want a warm sound with smooth highs (no icepick) and tight bottom. Think Celestion Blues tone with tighter bottom and just a hair less brightness.
I don't mind a really low power rating, as there will be 9 drivers in the cab so even a 10W rating would be plenty.
Right now the leading contenders are the Emi Copperhead and a Weber vintage (like a P10N Jensen or so)
Any suggestions? Yes, this 9x10 is gonna be heavy and large-- but not as bad as you think. I'm estimating it will weigh about 60#, given the drivers and materials I'm using.

A 9 X 10" cab? Wow, how'd you come up with that.??
Let's see, Celestion Blue sound with a tad less treble... Maybe a Weber Silver 10?
Of course, with 10 of them you could have 2 or three different models for a really complex sound...

The guitar player with the Doors used to have two speaker cabinets, each with 4 x 15" JBLs. The band hated those speakers. They were too tall and drilled everybody right between the ears.

You might consider a Jensen Neo.. they're lighter than ceramic or alnicos, especially if you gonna use 9 10"s! Wait... there's one in the buy & sell forum... ;D

No ICE PICK FOR ME!! Lol!
I'm guessing the JBL 15s were painful to hear.
After lugging EVs, some Webers will be pretty light:)

If you're really going to build a giant speaker behemoth I think I'd call around all the music stores and see what they've got used. I've found Kendrick 10s used in stores, and Gauss, CTS, Jensen, and Altec and JBL. You never know what they might have and they're always itching to unload them. Then it would be cool to mix and match.
