I could use a little help in thinking this through... The Z-Best cabs use lensing technology (an old trick of setting the speakers back on a very thick baffle). This aids in projecting the sound. That I understand, but it also makes the Z-Bests a bit beamy in terms of stage dispersion. When I use either of my 2 Z-Best cabs, the other guitar player never hears me on stage (which is sort of cool becaue it's license to "crank"). But from the audience's perspective, they hear fine and cranking actually makes me too loud. My question then is: Will the beam blockers work to spread the sound out a bit so others on stage can hear me with speakers that are set back so deeply? Do they affect Thiele Small paramaters? I know they work great on regular thickness baffleboards. My Stang is on order and I just want to have all my ducks in a row before it gets here! Thanks for any help

I suggest you do an experiment. Cut out two 4" circles of cardboard and use some double-back tape to secure each circle on the inside of your grill cloth, direclty in front of the center dome of each speaker. Then try it. That's essentially all the Beam Blockers are, they're just made to last instead of fall off after three nights. But the test should tell you right away if you're headed in the right direction.

Normally, I'm a testing demon. But I need to hear the difference both on stage and in the audience at normal stage volume. I actually have the beam blockers (got here today)... but when I ordered I didn't consider the possible interactions between the blockers and the deep recessed baffle board. We have a gig with Tommy Castro and Teresa James and the Rhythm Tramps this Sat afternoon/evening in PA (I swear to God...this is a private party). We will be providing the backline for both bands. Tommy normally runs his Super Reverb full bore into his plywood baffle. I wanted to make sure I could at least approximate his tone using my Route 66 into my Z 4x10 cab (should be no problem) . Since Tommy doesn't use pedals, I wanna get this right because his sound is so amp dependent. His baffle actually shoots the sound not only forward but laterally across the stage, so I want to eliminate any beaminess. We also have feelers out for getting Tommy a SR; but I sure would like to hear how he sounds through a Z. I got a couple 10" beam blockers to put on the top two 10 " speakers as a kind of compromise. Plus two sets of 12" blockers for my Z Best cabs. My 2 Celestion Blue Z-Best seems to be the beamiest...I'm just running out of time. But with my Mazerati head, it rocks regardless. Worse case scenario, I'll just have to turn it up a notch or so. Bummer Thanks for the input...I appreciate it! Now where's that powered screwdriver?
