Hey guys. There is a Gt I can snag. Was there only one version of the GT? Not sure if there are any questions I should ask or anything I should be looking out for? thanks

There was only one version of the Maz GT. I think what you are are thinking about is the MAZERATI - not,to be confused with Maz Jr or Maz 38 or the Maz GT. The Mazarati, also known as a Rati, did have two versions. The first was basically a double powered Ghia. V2 had major changes - Doc worked with Brad Paisley on its development. Was intended to be an AC30 + with Doc adding his magic and taking it to the next level.
Have you listened to the video of the Maz GT on the website - it is one loud amp! I had mine tamed with the MV mod - works great! Where are you located?

Thanks for writing Jag. Yep...Im referring the the "GT". Just wanted to make sure there was only one version. The only thing holding me back from pulling the trigger is the volume. I know the master mod is PPIMV....but I tend to not like masters (too many knobs LOL) . I also read there may be a half power switch? Half power with an Air Brake may be ticket?
Let me ask you...I know I have read this thing is a gain monster. But is there instant gain or do you need to get it loud to hear the gain?

There is a half-power switch along with the MV mod. There are only two knobs on the front - I had MV put on the back. I usually set it and leave it and use guitar volume for break-up and tone. If you're anywhere near S.E. Michigan we could make arrangements for you to test one out.

That's why I like MV mod.

That's why I like MV mod. I don't necessarily agree w/ Mike on this. I can get some pretty nice cleans up to about 9:00-10:00 on the volume dial w/ single coils - a little less w/ buckers. At that point, however, it is pretty loud. Any further twisting to the right doesn't really increase volume, it brings on the gain and saturation. I guess my amp might be a little different (tubes/tube age/whatnot). This is definitely not a general home use or bedroom amp. I guess w/ the mods it could be more usable at home. I use an Air Brake and am quite satisfied.

Hey there Rich - we'll have to agree to disagree - we had the Maz GT over at Steve's tonight - general consensus was that there really wasn't a "nice" clean on my Maz GT. It cleaned up a bit but nothing that you would really call clean. We played with it a while and got some really nice tones out of it though. We moved the MV almost all the way off and the regular volume all the way on - amazing fuzz tones similar to what the Monza gets - pretty cool! When Todd's son Michael heard that he developed an interest in playing some metal - worked quite nicely actually. Maybe it's the tubes that are being used that accounts for the difference between our two amps. I don't know but I guess Stu is going to have to figure it out for himself!

Very very briefly gave it a run through but I can see the half power and MV being very useful to tame the beast. My RxJr has a PPIMV and can bring the overall volume down quite low if I want to play late night. Can the GT get bedroom volume with on half mode with the MV?

i don't have half volume on my GT - only the MV mod. You can get quite low on the GT with the MV but not sure it would be called "bedroom volume". I'll don't keep mine where it needs to be quiet but I'll test it out tomorrow and let you know what I think.

And I'd add that I don't think you could really do anything to make the GT a bedroom amp (short of having everyone in the house, and your neighbors, wear earplugs and invest in significant sound-proofing...).

I turned the volume and tone all the way down (ccw) and the master volume up just enough to be heard. It provides a passable tone in a pinch but this amp was really meant to breathe fire . JMO and YMMV

Cool guys. I thought the half power and the MV was a package mod kind of thing, didn't know just the MV was an option. Do you guys know anyone that has the half power mod? Would love there thoughts.
Does the amp always produce a bit of "hum"for you guys? When I have the tone at 12 and the volume off (ccw), Theres a hum. Just want to. Make sure it's just normal hum from a gain monster and not a power tube

Thanks Rich. I have to give Don a shout. When the amp is "on",tone at 12:00 and the volume totally ccw/off.....there is a pretty loud hum. I know high gain amps can get noisy when volume increases....but this is humming with the volume off.....completely counter clock wise. In stand bye there is no noise. Maybe ground issue? Maybe power tube? Grrrrrrrrrr

Hey Stu. I'm just a weekend warrior, so no professional opinions here. I recently bought my second Maz GT. My first one had 3 mods: Master, Gain and 1/2 power. I sold it ('cause I really don't have a need for a bunch of gear, but tend to get caught up in the moments) but was sorry soon after that. I recently bought another one and it is on it's way back from Don's workbench as a type, with a MV, Gain and 1/2 power switch. I really think the MV and Gain are wonderful mods to make this amp usable for around the house and doing some local, small venue gigs. I had found (with a little playing around) a sweet spot with the MV and gain where I could use my Strat volume knob and go between a very nice clean to balls-to-wall fire-breathing beast. And my first one was QUIET, UNTIL you picked! Mine is supposed to be delivered on Tuesday. A friend asked me to record a few clips, just to hear it. If I do get around to recording something worthwhile, I'd be happy to share it if you are interested in hearing what the mods do to it. Took a little over 4 weeks for the mods, but Don D kept me updated and I knew at the outset it was going to be about 4 weeks. I was very happy with my first modded Rati GT.

Didn't know you sold the first one Gregg - and not surprised you bought a second one
