Hola, I'm trying to find a way to crank up my route 66 without using an attenuator, I know that greenbacks are rated at 97db, but I'm trying to find a guitar speaker closer to 90db, and idealy 80-90db. I've got a z-best 2x12, and I plan on eventually getting a bogner cube, and a z-best 2x10, but I'd like to find a realy quiet speaker for a 1x12 for late night practice at home. Thanks

You're trying to do exactly what I tried to do. Find a good low sensitivity speaker to use with my 66.
From what I found, you're not going to find a decent speaker lower than 97db. That's about the lowest I could find.
I'd say get your greenback and call it a day.
I purchased a Vintage 30. Also, a closed back cabinet will cut back on volume, but it can make the sound a little 'beamy'. I'll be getting a beam blocker soon.
Hope this helps.

So far the lowest I have found have been these jensen's..... www.jensenvintage.com/vin-home.htmsome of them are around 94db. There are audio speakers for cars and stereo's in the 80-90db range all the time, si i'm sure someone has to have made some guitar speakers in that range as well, although they may not sound too great

In home stereo speakers the crossovers eat up some of the efficiency so you can't go by that. I think a Celestion Greenback will be about as inefficent as you can find and you need more than one with a Route 66.

So far the lowest I have found is the vintage Jensen model C12Q www.jensenvintage.com/c12q.html3db lower than the greenback, and rated for 35 watts. Only 50 bucks too, so if it sounds like trash I wont be out much $$$.

Even though the Greenback is rated at 35 watts, the 66 is really more than 32 watts. Don't think you're playing it safe by 3 watts. You're not. The 66 can pump out WAY more than 32 watts. Many Z amps are like this. The Maz Jr. is really more like 23 watts...not 18 as labeled.
This is the very reason I purchased a Vintage 30 over the Greenback. Also there will be a BIG difference in the sound of a Jensen vs a Celestion. I wasn't willing to leave the Celestion sound.

GB's are actually 25 watts so I definitely wouldn't go with it in a 1x12 w/ the 66. You might try a Eminence Private Jack - it sounds like a GB, it's 50 watts and to my ears it's not too terribly efficient even w/ the 101db rating. It's definitely not as ballsy as say a Tonker, Swamp Thing or Wizard.

I thought I saw somewhere they were 35 watts?
The Celestion website now has two Greenbacks, rated at 20 and 30 watts.
Duh, on another section of the Celestion website, there is a 25 watt greenback.
...anyway...point is, a Route 66 may kill a solo greenback.

We all know that the Db rating isn't always exact but the GB wwill cut the volume noticably. I use Texas Heats in my Z Best. At 99db's they are quiter than the G12H30's that were in there originally but at 150 watts a piece they aren't going anywhere anytime soon.

+1 on the Texas Heats, great sounding speakers, low Db/hi wattage. Don't knock those Vintage series Jensens, they sound pretty good, I got a P-12-Q for the same reason, cut output on my Z-28, they are just under 97 Db I think. I used my old 66 with a single V-30 and it was loud, I just got another 66 with a 2x12 open back cab with Green backs and it seems considerably lower in output FWIW, Greenies are a great match with a 66...just not 1 of 'em though.
Try a Texas heat.
