Hi, newbie here. In short, I recently got a Mazerati with a 2x12 cab............in blonde! ;D Anyway, I have been quite pleased with the sound..........very AC30-ish, but a lot more umph! I may be hooked. (now may have to unload some other amps!) Anyway, the cab has never been opened and I cannot remove the back. Even with all the screws out, it just seems sealed. And I hate to use a screwdriver to pry it out............would leave big indentions in the wood and tolex. I have tried playing through it cranked with my Les Paul and screws out, hoping to shake it out(!) but no such luck. The cab sounds tremendous.........makes my old Bandmasters and JTM45 sound better as well.............!!! Question: the cab is from 2003, I think. Blonde/camel, with chromed corner guards. Rubber feet on two sides. And sounds very very BIG! and in-yer-face! I figure these are a pair of Celestion V30's or a V30/G12H30 mix. Any ideas here as to what's in the cab? And any way to open the cab without tearing up the back? Thanks, and great to be aboard!

If it's stock I believe that it has a V30/G12H30 combo in it.

Thanks, prowler. I was figuring that, though with the closed back, I was thinking just a pair of V30's. I know Dr Z loves Celestions, but I couldn't remember if he was doing his own speakers then. This cab does sound very big!

Try gently prying with a nice wide putty-knife tool, that worked for me the 'seal' should pop fairly easily.

pry that sucker open! You ain't gonna hurt it. I've opened mine up at least 15 times or so swapping speakers, changing from parallel to series and back to parallel wiring. That's part of the fun about owning this cab is it's so easy to tinker with.

"pry that sucker open! You ain't gonna hurt it"
I agree, but I sure to hate to put any marks on this beauty!
BTW, at my gig this evening (outdoors), I must have gotten the 'you got to turn it down' warning at least 5 or 6 times! And my Maz was barely at 10-11 o'clock!

Put 2 of the screws back in the top of the cover deep enough to grab the cover, but not into the cab itself. Press down on the screw heads which will angle the screw threads up in to the cover. While maintaining this pressure, try to pull down and out with the screws and wiggle if if will. This should break the seal and wont hurt the tolex.
Good Luck.

The Z Best is an efficent and directional cab, from what I've gathered by other posts. The Greenbacks are probably a great way to tame it a bit. You might need some beam blockers too.

Cozyshack--
Did you get the Mazerati and cab off of eBay a few weeks ago or so? If so I was looking SERIOUSLY at that one too. If not... it's the same darn amp and cab as that one. Unfortunately the wife held the reins (and the common sense) and I had to drop out of the bidding. I guess I'll just make do with my Maz Jr. NR head and Z-Best cab. But I reaaaaally wanted to hear them together.
*whimper*
P.S. I did get a Vox AC-30CC to mess around with in the time being though. So far, it's a keeper!!
