Has anybody tried out a Celestion Vintage Century, Jensen Neo or Emi Tonkerlite in a Z amp?
I hear that the "non-vintage" Celestion Century has some very nasty highs, but I can't find out much about the others I've mentioned.

I've read on some posts in Harmony Central (I think about the last Reverend amps) that the Jensen ndym doesn't sound good either. I have a couple of the original Celestion Century speakers and they are unforgivingingly fast and sharp. Right now I have one in my Tweed Deluxe. It sounds fabulous in that amp. I have that amp set up for clean with low gain preamp tubes. It is hands down the loudest, cleanest and bassiest Tweed Deluxe you've ever heard. I've used this speaker in other amps but not my Z. I was thinking about hooking up my Carmen Ghia to it to see what it sounds like. I'm sure it will be much louder but also too bright. I'm hoping that Eminence has figured out how to control that high end. Update: I looked at HC's posts about the Jensen neo. Everyone gave it a good review so I don't know where I heard that the neo wasn't good. Sorry.

I had a Jensen neo 10" in my little Reverend Goblin and it was indeed fast and sharp as billy mentions above. Now I know what they mean by ear fatigue. I hated that thing. I took it out and put in a Z 10". HUGE difference. It sounds nice and woody now and I can play all night and it doesn't make me feel like my ears are bleeding. I'm not convinced at all about this whole "new earth magnet" technology. Give me a good 'ol ceramic or alnico magnet. WEIGHT = TONE!!

I have a Jensen Neo and had it in a Deluxe Reverb. To me it had an EV quality to it and was nice both clean and breaking up(real smooth). The clean was especially nice after about 3 gigs...Alot of people with very good ears around here like them. I put an Emminence BV30V in there to try out and it had alot more balls. It wont clean up as well though but at band level the v30 comes through where the neo gets a little lost. So I'm staying with the V30 for now and that one is not completly broken in yet..The neo does get sweet. Hope this helps. I like both really...The NEO is like an old EV but not as loud I guess...
