Ive heard people say that a Zbest is a real hoss of a cab and is very loud. Heres my delima... I currently own a Maz38 and a Z28 both 1/12 combos. Since I got the Z28, I have pretty much "fell outta love" with the Maz but I know that there will be times when I need the Maz'z headroom/volume (such as country gigs where I'm on stage with a steel guitar player for example). I love the sound of the Z28 but I'm afraid it just wont have enough "oomph" to compete in those situations.
Would a Zbest make the Z28 loud enough (relatively clean) to compete with the volumes a steel guitar is capable of?

Rcrecelious, i had up until recently, a 28 4-10 combo. It ended up being kind of overlap for me as ive settled mostly on my Rt. 66 and 65 vibrolux rvb. It was a tough decision to let it go! I agree that its the Shizz. Anyway, the 4-10 open back was VERY loud, in fact really about the same percived volume as my 66 with various cabs. I think you might be pleased with the output, maybe the doc's 4-10 open ?

Thanks for the input telemanic. Have you read this thread? Z28 WorkoutTas puts the Z28 through its paces through a Z 4/10 and a Zbest...and he reports that the Zbest was much louder than the 4/10.

How about a 1 x 12 extension cab with an efficient speaker for more headroom?

How about a 1 x 12 extension cab with an efficient speaker for more headroom? I have thought about it but...I'm thinking about making the transition to all head/cabs so I can mix/match according to the venue and volume requirements. Maybe I can try a Zbest locally and make a more educated decision about what I need to do.

Put two Tonkers in a Z-best and you'll have one efficient LOUD, CLEAN and BEEFY cab. The Z Best is IMHO the best closed back 2x12 on the planet, but keep in mind that It looks like a small cab, but it weighs a ton!!!
Muy Heavey!!!

Ronnie,
They are LOUD !!!
a stock best w/V-30, G-12-H compared to your Greenback loaded 1x12 is, well, no comparison.
My Z Best was considerably louder, and nastier, than a single V-30 Z cab, made the Ghia a BEAST.
JMO, YMMV. yada, yada.
Oh yea, and like guitman1 say's "1 heavy mutha".
Yawl have a great long weekend.

Rcrecelious, sorry i was on vac. for a bit. Yes i did see the comment about the z-best being much louder than the 4-10. The only thing i can add is that i was comparing my Z-28 4-10, with my 66/ z-best. Yes the the Z-best IS louder, but to be honest, i was amazed that the 4-10 combo was really loud too! And with the lesser wattage of the 28! It may just have been the stage i was on at the time. There was obviously a lot more punch and projection out of the closed back, so at the back of the club i'm not sure how the open back measured up. I was reacting to the apparent stage volume. I have always been suprised by how loud the 28 4-10 is for only 22watts. ( probably more like 30 or so!! ), Lou
