Well I'm getting an interesting epiphany here.... Got this used 6545 head and I have a ton of speaker cabs around here, and I hate the sound of it with most of them. Weird. I know it's the cab because it sounds pretty good with a couple of them, but not as good as I think it can be. Fascinating.
I have a couple of THD 2x12 cabs here, and the KT-45 side sounds honky, and way too warm on the top through those cabs. Sounds much better through my 4x10 with Fender DeVille 10's in there. But not perfect - smoother, but still a bit warmer than I want. On a whim I set it up on the Weber Alnico California I have in my Rivera Sedona - holy cow, now we're starting to get closer.
So this tells me that I'm liking something perhaps a bit brighter than most of you like - I really did NOT like the Weber Ceramic Blue Dogs once they broke in - WAY too warm on the top end.
So, I have several questions:
1) How does the Doc's 10" speaker compare to say the Weber Alnico Blue Pup, especially the top end?
2) I see Weber makes some other 10's that are supposed to be like the JBL D110's - I know those were terribly bright. Anyone have any experience with those Webers - I think that's an Alnico California?
3) Any other suggestions?
I'm considering replacing the tens in my 4x10, or if the right twelves could be had, either swap out a set in one of the THD's or order up a 2x12 with them.
Ideas anyone?

I can't comment on how Z's 10 sound vs. the speakers you mentioned but I can say that my Z 4x10 cab sounded amazing with my SRZ. Full, thick articulate tone. I A/B tested my SRZ through my Z 4x10 & a Mesa 4x12 loaded with V 30's. The Z cab was the clear winner in my book.

What's interesting to me is that, to my ear, the SRZ side of this amp sounds good with almost everything I hook to it. It's the KT-45 side that I think needs a bit of help from the cab.

I do not have any experience with 10s and the 6545 but I do have some with the 6545 and 12" speakers.
I started out with a Celestion G12H and a G12M in a closed back 2-12. I changed those out for a set of Ted Weber Alnico Thames speakers. I got them undoped and wired them in series to get 16 Ohms load on the cab. I get a great bright full sound on the KT-45 side with my Les Paul. Actually, I love the sound and could not imagine switching them out. Kind of HiWattish with great articulation.
Talk to Ted Weber and let him know what you are looking for tone wise and see what he says.

I've actually been considering the 10" version of this speaker to replace the four duds I have in this 4x10 cab here. I haven't pulled the trigger because at $155 each, it's going to hurt a little. Now that you've responded this way, I feel a little better about that. The only other thing I was thinking was perhaps change out a pair on one of my THD cabs, but I was hoping to keep those as is. Karma for you Paul!
