Hello,
I recently played on a Dr. Z 6545 and fell in love. However, the tone that really got me was playing through the 65 side of the amp with the gain all the way down (which doesn't seem to be how most people like that amp). I want that sound, but anywhere I've seen the amp for sale it's just out of my budget, so I'm wondering if anyone could weigh in on how the SRZ 65 would compare. I've read that the 65 side of the 6545 and the SRZ 65 sound different from each other, but I'm wondering how different and in what ways.
Thanks!

I think the 6545 and the SRZ 65 are pretty close tonally. The major difference is that 6545 doesn't have a "presence" control - it is set to 12 o'clock. Hard pressed to tell difference if not side by side (all else being equal). Once I got 6545 I parted ways with SRZ because 6545 was more versatile with 45 side.

Thanks for the descriptions. It sounds like an SRZ-65 would work for the tone I'm looking for, so I'll keep my eyes open for one of those.
I'm also wondering if anyone could give any suggestions as to other Z amps I might try. Essentially, I'm looking for something that's just the clean side of the SRZ-65, and it doesn't need to be high wattage at all. I'm running a Gretsch G5120 into it and am looking for a really "warm" tone that also "sparkles". Thus far I've tried the Remedy, Monza, and the 45 side of the 6545 and none of them were right. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks!

If I were you I'd also be looking at JAZ 20/40, Prescription RX (not the EX version) and the Mazerati (version I or II). Also, Ghia and Maz 18 (depending on the volume you need are both versatile.
