I know they're made by Celestion, but I'm trying to identify what I have.
I have a 90 watt 12 inch Black Shadow (made in the early 90's), that says MC-90 on it, but I can't find any chart or conversion table to tell me what kind of Celestion it is.
I'm using it in a closed back 1x12 with a Route 66. Based on what it is, that will help me purchase a better speaker to match the amp.
Can anyone help me?

I found a Harmony-Central posting (so take it for what it's worth) and the guy says the MC-90 is a celestion G12m80.
Anyone know about these?

A G1280 is a very loud clean speaker, similar to an EV.

I had a 1983 50 watt JCM 800 combo that had a original G12-80 in it. It was a very loud clean speaker with almost no speaker distortion. To me it didn't sound as good as the older V-30's but it did sound better than the new ones. You might want to try that Black Shadow in an open cab.

The black shadow came from an open cab! I took it from an old early 90's Boogie 2x12 'half back' cab. For years it's been in my Carvin X amp combo.
But with the new Route 66, I needed a speaker to dump into a 1x12 closed back....and it's not bad.

I had a couple of mesa combos with these speakers, a MKI and a Heartbreaker 2-12./ Had the eminince line of speakers that are out now, Tonker, Swamp Thang...etc...etc...been around that would have been great...I never liked the black shadow speakers....they just did not have any life in them at least to my ears..... For my money you would be hard pressed to beat out the eminince models that are available now...and don;t for get the legend....I always like that speaker and have a couple of them haning around now.....I have the Tonker in my MAZ 38 , sounds real good....course,the stock celestion sounded real good too....just different....so I will play the Tonker for a year or so, then put the Celestion back in and play that for a year or so and them maybe make an extension cab..... The beauty of the Z line is that they sound so HUGE.....its really not needed to go more than 1-12...IMHO

I know, I am thinking of a way to get my StingRay into a 1-12...could sell this one and buy one I suppose...thats the ONLY drawback on this amp....stairs, cars, backseats, and the like can be difficult. Where I am from it can get 30-40 below 0....snow like nuts....it becomes dangerous muscleing around heavyweight equitment, either PA or amps....I will have to get a road case on wheels or use a dolly of some sort if I stay with the 2-12 combo...which presents annother set of problems unto itself.. If the amps were 150lbs each I would still haul them around.....its the dam, sound...played out Sat. with the StingRay for the first time....I was very imressed and never got the amp over 1/3 volume...no need...and we can get kinda LOUD at times...(when we really like the song!) the amp performed flawlessly, so for that, a few pounds is a good trade off....
