Just scored a KT45, and it's amazing! Clean Clean Clean, but oh what a monster when you run a great Overdrive/Distortion/Fuzz through it. I have a Groove Tubes 1x12 cabinet that I would like to use w/ the amp for smaller clubs, and private gigs. I need a speaker that can cover everything from jazz to heavy rock. I made up my mind to try one of the new Eminence speakers. The Tonker currently has my vote based on a few guys on this forum running them with Maz 38's. Anyone have experience with a KT45, or any kind of EL34 based amp with this speaker in a 1x12 configuration? Should I be looking at any other speakers? Patriots? I'm aware of the Eminence report from Guitar Player, thanks for that link posted in Cabs and Speakers recently. Any response is appreciated. Thank you.

I'd try out both the Tonker and the Swamp Thang, either would be great depending on your preference of a brighter or darker tone. The high wattage ratings would be perfect for the KT45. At $49 bucks a pop, not too bad to try em both out.

Thanks for the feedback. I ordered a Tonker from Avatar. I prefer British voiced speakers. I will let you know how it sounds when installed. Take care, -Matt

If your not quite satisfied with the tonker, try a 121 legend. Its what the tonker/swamp thing come from, as well as others. Its not as bright as the tonker and a little easier to drive into some english bark. The swamp and tonk accentuate some highs and lows, while the 121 is more honest, if you will. It is nice and chimey on the highs, but not peircing, and full and big on the bottom with out being boomy, and the mids are real natural, no v-30 harshness that you find sometimes. But middy enough to get some of that celestion sound.

Thanks folks for all the suggestions and feedback.
The Tonker's installed and sounding great.
I used the KT45 and the new speaker w/ the Jazz combo on Sunday, and man it was over the top. Maybe too much ;D I'm thinking an Airbrake is in my future. My band mate happens to have a 16 Ohm Hotplate he is going to let me try to see if that's the direction I want to go. I've been using a Solid State Combo for the Jazz stuff, so the KT45 w/ all its harmonic content was quite hard to control in a clean context. I'm hoping an attenuator may be just the thing to calm the savage beast that is my KT45..... -Matt

Hey Match, I notice you have a cusack screamer-fuzz. How do you like it?...I'm quite interested in that pedal at the moment. It must love the KT45! I'm betting my Route 66 would love it too.

Great Pedal, very versatile. I met Jon Cusack at the Columbus Guitar Show. My band mate had a Screamer, and I had just had my Zvex SeekWah modded w/ his tap tempo mod, amazing mod BTW, Let's you use the pedal, an oddball to begin with, in a live context. Anyway back to the Screamer/Fuzz. Jon says it's an broken op-amp design, not a transistor type fuzz. It gets pretty fuzzy, but my favorite settings are lot's of Screamer/a little fuzz. I use the fuzz control just like a tone control adding just the right amount of treble/fuzziness. And if you max out the fuzz control, it craps out like it's broken, kind of a cool effect. Into the KT45 it sounds huge, it's my over the top/Toolesque/wall of sound pedal. It also will do the overdrive thing, with just the screamer control on, no fuzz, but it's darker sounding than my band mate's Screamer. I love the etched black pedals, they really stand out, and no silk screening to wear off. And the switches he uses are amazing, not a hard click, just a soft contact, and they switch from a green LED standby, to Red LED, ON, as if you didn't know it was on....... Hope that's an ample description. Jon's a great guy to deal with as well.

I like the Legend 121. That is what someone recommended to me nad I like it lots. It is supposed to be somewhere between the Tonker and the Swamp Thang. I think its a good clean all around loud speaker. I play lots of small clubs and weddings and other parties. THis speaker has been great with my Maz 38 in those settings.
