My Z 1x12 (with a Greenback) arrived today! I've been envisioning a rather awkward looking arrangement of cab and Maz Jr, based on the cab's posted dimensions on the site, and, although I was a little perplexed reconciling my recollection of the dimensions with the cab we pulled from the box, even as I was bringing it home (on the bus, I might add), I was wondering about stacking the cab on the Maz, or leaving 'em side by side, or what... Well, I don't know if the standard dimensions have changed, or the guys at Emerald City Guitars mentioned anything to the good Dr., but...well...see for yourself... And, guess what...it sounds good, too. ;D

Mike Z's all about lookin' good while yer soundin' good, the early square cabs matched the early small box combos. When, and for whatever reason, Mike changed the combo cabs he followed suit with the extension cabs...too cool, glad your happy....
I'm with Dave, I prefer the old sq. cabs with my heads, I wish Doc would offer both.

Yet another vote for doc to offer the old square 1x12 cabinet. Both are good, but I prefer the square for some reason.

Part of it is for me @ 6'4" on the new cabs my amp head would be @ my ankles !!!! The sq. cabs just look cool with a head settin' on 'em, right height, weight, etc. Common' Mike..bring them back as a second option for 1x12 cabs, PulezzzzZZZZZZ

Judge for yourself. The cab on the right is an Avatar, but is roughly the same dimensions as a square Z, excluding the depth. The new style is PERFECT for sitting under a combo like bks's, but under a head the square is more proportional IMO. Plus, I'm tall like Curt ;D

To me the square cab is nicer looking than the new cab if you're just using it and a head. I bet a new design 1-12 cab and a 2-10 cab would be a killer mini stack.
I know what the new cab design needs, fold-down legs like Kramer's coffee table book!

bks- I like your setup and I am hoping do do a similar setup with my Ghia combo. I really wanted a closed back 1 x 12 enclosure for the bottom cab- but my local dealer said Z doesn't make a 1x12 closed back- Does anyone know if that's true? Any one know of another 1 x 12 that is the same width as a Z Ghia combo?

I'm no physicist, nor do I play one on anyone's TV (but for a fee......)
Don't the square cabs introduce standing wave issues in cab design? The rectangular shape I understand minimizes this.
rick, I'm using a Mesa Boogie 1x12 square cab with my Ghia...it's the one with the half-open back. It's a perfect fit width-wise. I replaced the stock G12-80 (as I recall) with a 30W Weber Blue Dog, to the great fanfare of many. Well, to me at least. I'd give a link to the cab on the mesa site, but firefox is complaining.....

Terry- Do you have a Ghia head or combo? I measure my combo to be 22.5" W or thereabouts. I've found some other cabs offered by Swanson, Trutone, Tone Tools, etc... but don't really know anyitng about them. Recomendations if I can't get an enclosed Z 1x12?

d'oh! I have a ghia head. Here's data from the Dr.'s site: Dimensions and Weight: Head: 17 1/2" W, 9" H, 9 1/2" D; 18 lbs. 1-12 and 2-10 combo: 23" W, 20 1/8" H, 10" D; 47 lbs. my ghia *head* fits perfectly on on the little mesa cab. You might try Avatar for a 1x12. I was real close to pulling the trigger on an Earcandy 1x12 as well. www.avatarspeakers.com/g112.htm is the 1x12 Avatar. 17" wide www.earcandycabs.com/sovereign.htm is the Earcandy "Sovereign" - up to 18" wide. Maybe Weber has something - he started providing cabs.

If one was gonna do a Ghia Combo with a Z 1x12 (possibly with a board added to it to create a sealed back design), and you had a V30, G12H30, and a GB available- Which 2 speakers would you use, and which in the open back combo and which in the (possibly closed back) 1x12 cab?
