I just picked up a 1960b Marshall 412 loaded w/vintage 30's. The other guitar player in the band has a 412 w/greenback reissues. We are both using 6545 heads. OK, now that the specifics are outa the way! We were thinking of swapping 2 of each of the speakers so we would each have 2 greenback/2 v30's in our 412 cabs. What is the best way to do this (2 GB on top/2 v30's on bottom or vice versa or in a x pattern)? We were thinking we would get the smooth breakup of the GB's on top with the punch of the V30's on the bottom. Just wanted to get everyone's opinions & thoughts on the pro's & con's of mixing these two animals in one 412. Its actually a cool combo with each of us now as I am punchier & he has that smooth compressed sound, but as guitar players we can't help but tinker! It also helps that the 6545's are amazing! I will contain myself now & just wait for your thoughts!

Yo mdlash, I have an SRZ-65 and my Zbest has a V30 bottom and a Private Jack top (pretty much a 50 watt GB) and I really like the sound. I was running a GB on the top and loved it but since I just had a 2 X 12 and 65 watts I needed a little more speaker wattage on top. I would imagine that this will sound pretty damn good and since you've got the 4x12 you'll have plenty of wattage. I'd definitely go w/ the V30's on the bottom though as they'll handle the low end better. Also the doc says he loves the 65 side through GB's too. I say go for it.

Two more questions... I removed the back of my cab to find 4 8ohm Vintage 30's. The cab has a selector on the back which options are: 16ohms or 4ohms mono / 2 inputs each 8ohms stereo. I would assume stock this cab came with 4 16ohm speakers. Since it has 4 8ohm speakers, would it now be wired 8ohms or 2ohms mono / 2 inputs each 4ohms stereo? Also, the other 412 cab is loaded with 4 Greenbacks rated at 16ohms each (cab does not have a selector).
Do we even have the option of swapping two speakers as we would each have 2 @ 8ohms & 2 @ 16ohms? Is there a way to wire them together to get 8 or 16 ohms total? Please excuse my ignorance with all this ohmage stuff! I appreciate any assistance as I am confused...
