Just picked up black Galaxie head on ebay - why not - each man needs 3 Zs; a couple of different flavors and a backup. Too bad we just finished our studio work - would have loved to have used it on our debut CD.

Congrats on the Gal' - you'll be lovin' it in no time. It took me having to sell it to realize how good it was (if that makes any sense). Luckily, I have it back and I really dig this time around. It ain't going anywhere ever again. She's mine and she's lovely!!!!!

Gal' arrived yesterday - went to work with it on the 210 cab but had the Airbrake on Bedroom level since the kids were napping. Anyhow - I can see how it takes some tweaking and gettin' used to Channel 2. This amp is very different from my Z28s and the Maz Jr and Ghia that I have owned. I really think this thing is a pedal killer - I mean it doesn't seem like I need my Fat Boost and definitely not my FD2 anymore with this baby. I will have to get it up to volume a bit today and will use it for my gig next week before I can really assess it.

Okay - I set the Airbrake to 3 (it is too compressed in the bedroom level or even on 4 sometimes) and ran it in Triode mode with the 2x10 using the Lentz SSL. Man - I forgot how good a 6L6 amp could sound (my last decent ones were a 64 BF Tremolux and 62 Blonde Bassman) and this sounds way better those aforementioned amps. I had the following settings - B-11'oclock, T-1 o'clock, P-1 o'clock, V1 - 2 o'clock, V2 - 10 o'clock. The V1 channel held together the bottom end of the strat real well and with the Fat Boost it did a nice bit crunch or a lead tone that works quite well for me on a number of blues tunes. The V2 channel was sweet - volume slightly louder than V1 at that setting but not too gainy for me. I could kick in my Fat Boost for that bit of extra sustain. But there is no need for my FD2 pedal now at least not with this amp.
This amp reminds me a bit of what I had with my '64 Tremolux and '62 Blonde Bassman. Where the Tremolux was like Channel 1 and the Bassman like Channel 2 - but of course the Z sounds better (it is not as scooped as the BF Tremolux). Thanks again Dr. Z.
