Well guys, it arrived today amid a lot of chaos at my house; what with my wife and I taking down our 3 Christmas trees, outdoor lights etc and not being helped by our 4 year old and her crazy little sister... anyway.
I did what I always tell myself never to do - opened it quickly and had a quick blast without sitting down properly to work everything out.
Instantly it hummed like crazy, i played it a bit but between the hum from the reverb and the noise of the fan I put it away, back in it's box and phoned the shop to come and get it. I was not a happy camper.
Fast-forward to 10PM. I'd had a couple of glasses of wine and decided to open the box again for another go. I worked out how to disconnect the fan and removed each of the pre-amp tubes very carefully and re-installed them properly. I clicked the brake lite on a couple of notches and started her up - no static, no hum, no fan.
I sat for 10 minutes with my strat and I slowly began to fall in love.
Instead of rationally working out what could have been slightly moved in transit this morning I jumped the gun, ready to throw away a ton of good tone and an early example of a future classic.
Lessons have been learned, and I'm a better man for it.
I will report back tomorrow with a full review and perhaps a video clip.
BTW...
3 questions.
1. I don't seem to have an effects loop? Or if I do I can't see the Send / Return jacks.
2. Made Dec 2010. Is this one of the last - numbered 111?
3. As well as the Brake lite fitted there is a fan, as mentioned above. Would this be an aftermarket option fitted by the previous owner?
The reason I ask is because at home it is very loud so I disconnected it. LIve I will keep it on but at home I wish to have a quiet amp. Will my amp overheat and do any real damage without the fan??
