I have an 8 Ohm attenuator I want to use with my Maz 18 and a variety of cabinets. One of the cabs is 16 Ohms ... Is it safe to use the 8 Ohm attenuator with a 16 Ohm cab? Which speaker input on the Maz do I use, 8 or 16? Thanks Jim

There are a number of threads on this subject worth a search through. I currently run my Maz 18 NR into an 8 ohm THD hotplate but from the 4 ohm tap and into 2 x 8 ohm speakers giving a 4 ohm parallel load. I also run my Marshall 1974X with the hotplate from the 8 ohm tap but into a 16 ohm load and this by all accounts this mismatch is fine they just state the tone control switches are less effective. However THD say its a no no to run the amp from the 16 ohm tap into the 8 ohm hotplate then into a 16 ohm load. I hope this answers your question.

Not knowing which attenuator we're talking about, generally speaker cab impedance is not the big concern with an attenuator. It is however important to match the attenuator impedance with the amp's impedance. So it is OK to run a 16 ohm cab with an 8 ohm attenuator.
Your pretty much safe if you plug your cab into the amps impedance jack that represents an impedance that is lower than the speaker cabinet(s) total impedance.
Make sure you plug the 8 ohm attenuator into the 8 ohm amp jack and you're good to go.

Thanks ... It's a 8 Ohm Hot Plate. I thought it would be okay ... Just needed reassurance from other users.
