Hey, gang....Got in two new 10's for my MAZ Jr today from the good folks at Weber. Because I liked the stock speakers, and didn't want to change the amp drastically, I went with-
1- Ceramic Weber 10V 1- Ceramic Weber 10VS
I had an alnico Blue Pup and alnico Silver 10 in the amp at one point and liked them....Very pretty sound. But I lost headroom and balls vs. the stock Z speakers. The 10V "British Series" Webers are supposed to be ballsy like the Z's, but the 10V uses the Blue Pup cone and the VS uses the Silver cone, giving the best of both worlds. I'm taking the amp to work all weekend to get them broken in, and I'll give you my thoughts early next week.

After using my Maz Jr exclusively (for speaker break in) on several gigs since Friday, here are my views on the new Weber speakers (10V and 10VS)-
For what I'm after, they are the perfect fit. Quite similar to the stock Dr. Z speakers in that they are loud, and ballsy.
The main difference I hear is this-
The stock Z's have a tad more punch, and are slightly more agressive.....Best way to describe them is to say they have a definite upper-mid attack to them that is very cool, and equally effective for clean and overdriven stuff. I'd say the stock speakers have an ever-so-slight edge in headroom. Of course, the Webers haven't fully broken in yet, so that could change.
The Webers are a bit more British....... slightly darker. More low-mid empasis with some "huff." With the stock Z's, I'd say the amp was more in the "Vox with a touch of Fender" category, and the Weber 10V's take it more to the early Marshall side.
I can say I would have been happy keeping the stock speakers, but just wanted to experiment a bit. So if you've got any of the Dr's amps with two 10's and want to go a little darker, the Weber 10V's are a perfect fit. Mine are the ceramic versions because I need the extra headroom. For even more compression, go with the Alnico 10V's.
If you want to stay in the "punchier" realm, stay with the stock speakers. They are certainly great in their own right.
