I see the Dr. Z website states that a 2x12 open back cab is available. Is it a Thiele ported Zbest with a different back or a non-thiele ported conventional design. Has anyone heard/seen one? The Dr. doesn't state the dimensions for this particular cab.

I am not sure but I would hazzard a guess that this was not a cab for Brad Paisley. Brad does most things in red, almost exclusively. Now Zac Childs had a cab that looked like this for his RxES and Brad may have used Zac's rig on stage sometime but I do not think Zac is selling his rig. But ... not sure on this but this is my take on it.

Myles, I should have typed a little more definitive...these darn computers ;-)
The open back at Mass Music has NO connection to BP I'm aware of, it was simply a link to show what one looks like. I'm under the impression the red one with Weber Blue/Silver alnicos pictured in Brads "Gear" section on his website, was the 2x12 open back that got Z going in that direction.

For what it's worth, I have a maz 38 sr (with reverb AND the effects loop no less) and one of Z's new open back 2X12 cabs. The cab is loaded with 2 celestions, one vintage 30 and one G12H30 anniversary model. It is not ported, and is conventional in design. It is exactly the cab I have been questing for. In a word, the cab is - incredible. each speaker compliments the sound of the other. The Z-Best ported cab has, in my simplistic opinion, a couple drawbacks for my own preferences - 1 is weight and size, and another is the tighter, bassier response (which you may actually prefer). ahh well - quite minor really. let me suggest you read the following for more info....a bit old, but great reading www.tonequest.com/articles/dr-z.htm

Well, I took the plunge. I ordered the cab with 2 G12H30's. I need another cab like a hole in the head, but I think I should have all bases covered with all my cabs for any future heads. Oh, I also ordered a Z28. The waiting begins.
