I'm still struggling with my remedy vs stangray decision so I'm headed down to humbucker to try them both out side by side and declare a victor! The loser will just be purchased in a couple months anyway.
That being said, I don't plan on use anything beyond maybe a compressor and a boost for the remedy but want to make sure the ray can get the right kind of dirty for me (ie harder rock, screaming solos) so I turn to you experts. What pedals do you love with your ray?
In a perfect world I'm hoping that it sounds amazing with the stock 4x10 z I have but have heard some people say they only like it with blues or golds. What's your experience?

I really like mine with a 1x12 Gold Z cab I really like Mike's with a 1×12 Gold, too..! I think maybe the only thing better would be a 2×12 with Blues. On the plus side, keep in mind that a 1×12 Gold (open-back is fine) is quite possibly THE BEST speaker for both the 'Ray and the Remedy. Plus, it would be a nice complement to your Z 4×10, as well. So, you might as well consider the "speaker cab" part of your search done at this point, and just get yourself a Gold. (See how easy it is for me to spend your money?)

I’m currently on my 2nd Stang Ray. I had my first one in 2006 and had it for just over a year. I LOVED the clean tone, but I never found an OD pedal to bond with it and that was my main reason for selling (trading) it off.
Well………A few months ago, I traded for another Stang Ray….. I went at dialing it in with a total different approach. Previously, I ran the Tone up at about 3:00 and the Cut up around 3:00. This was VERY scooped and no drive pedals sounded good with it. This time, I set the Tone at 12:00 and have to dial back the cut to about 10:00. It still has plenty of low end and the top end (cut) is more pronounced with the tone dialed back…. There is also a stronger mid-range (but not mid-heavy). But the BEST part of this, my pedals sound AMAZING through the Ray with these new settings!
So…. In saying all that, I think the Ray sounds best with pedals based on the Tubescreamer circuit. I LOVE my BBE Green Screamer, best TS clone I’ve owned. But my favorite pedal used with it is my Paisley Drive. I also like my CMATmods Signa Drive ran thought it. All TS type pedals.
For higher gain, my favorite so far has been my XTS Atomic Overdrive (kind of a Marshall in a box). It’s more “mid-rangy” than a lot of distortion pedals, which sets well with the scooped Ray.
As for speakers…. I’ve never played my Ray through an actual Celestion Blue or Gold, but I had 2x12 cab loaded with a 50wt Weber Alnico Blue Dog & 50wt Alnico Silver Bell that sounded amazing (probably my favorite cab ever). I currently have a 1x12 cab with a 30wt Weber Alnico Blue Dog and another cab with 2x12 Weber Alnico Blue Dogs (30wt each) . I love this speaker with any AC30 style amp, like the Ray. I think they’re a little tamer than Celestions on the top end which, can be good for the Ray.

You guys know your stuff!!! Sadly I sold my z 1x12 convertible with a celestion gold! I found a single 1x12 sounded too boxy to my ears. I'm glad to hear about the Tubescreamer style pedals because I'm thinking about keepin my Wampler hot wired to go with! Should be awesome I hope...

Got a 2X12 with blues when I bought my Ray. Swapped out one of the blues for a gold as a trial and couldn't be happier. That is a great combination.

Jetter GS 3 for OD and two blues. Sounds pretty good even with my sloppy playing!

The Wampler Sovereign, I'm sure would sound amazing (not heard one, but want one).
My XTS Atomic Overdrive is pretty hot-rodded Marshall-y sounding, can do some pretty hard rock, but not metal. I also have a "Dr. Boogie" that is a Dual Rectifier preamp clone pedal, this is 99% metal and does not clean up with the guitars volume, it's that dirty.
The MI Audio TubeZone can get some really good "Boogie" tones that get almost in to the metal territory.
Another pedal I'd love to try is the Wampler Triple Wreck.

hope you choose the Ray. I'm biased! For speakers, different stokes for different folks. The latest speakers I've been using are a single G12-65 and sometimes add in a Weber Blue Dog 50w alnico for a 2x12 set up. I run the Ray's volume around 1:00 - 2:00, use low efficiency speakers and an airbrake set to one or two clicks in. I've been playing more dance club type rock (classic and modern) these days and like the ceramic punch. I've tried a handful of OD/Dist pedals with the Ray but it's been limited. Currently I'm favoring a barber DD with the MOD PCB for heavier rock tones. For OD tones I like the Exotic BB. I've never tried any of the Wampler pedals but would like to...
