I need to buy a cab that will be used with my Ghia. I'm wondering what type of cab you use with your Z amp? I've been thinking of getting one of the following cabs. Z 2x10 Z 1x12 Bogner cube 1x12 I know what the bogner will sound like since I have been using my Ghia plugged into a Shiva combo's speaker. But I have yet to hear the Z cabs. 2x10's seem interesting but I'm concerned that 2x10's won't sound good for rock playing. Any suggestions or comments? How about some sound clips !

My Ghia is a 1x12 combo with a Weber Blue Dog and it sounds great. I really like that speaker. I have also plugged the Ghia into a Z-Best cabinet (not broken in yet) and it sounded even better. The Z-Best is a very 3D sounding cab, the notes just seem to sustain, like you have a reverb or delay on. I have it upright, so the speakers are on the top and bottom. I think that makes a difference, it is very easy to hear. I don't think you could go wrong with any of those cabs.

Initally I wanted to go with a Celestion G12H30. I don't think that any of the cabs discussed here have that speaker in them. The Weber speakers also interest me. I really didn't want to go with a 2x12 but I may have to.

My Z-Best has a G12H30 and a V30. My Ghia (bought used) came with a greenback and it sounded pretty good. I bought a new Vintage 30 for it and didn't really like it. It sounded muddy to me, but I never really broke it in. I used it a couple of times and moved on to the Weber and have been very happy with it.

In regard to the Weber Blue Dog...
Did you get the Alnico or the Ceramic version?

I've got an Avatar 212 cab that sounds great and is constructed very well. If I had enough money at the time, I probably would have gotten a Z-Best, but the Avatar does just fine by me.
It's got a Weber Blue Dog 30 ceramic and Celestion G12H30 in there. Nice combo mix...the chimey, creamy blue dog and the brutish, punchier G12.
I don't have experience with 10's, but from everything I've heard, the Dr.Z 2X10 cabs sound pretty huge and would probably work very well for your Ghia too.

I have it down to one of the following-
z 2x12 z 2x10 z 1x12
I never thought it would be this hard to decide on a cab! Can anyone speak of the tonal differences of these cabs? Any one suited better for one style of music than another?

I use a MAZ Jr. non reverb. I have one cabinet loaded with a 12" Weber 12A125 (AlNiCo). The other cabinet is loaded with a 10" Weber AlNiCo Blue Pup. The 12A125 replaces Jensen P12Q. The Blue Pup repaces vintage Vox & Marshall AlNiCo's. Both speakers are 8 ohm loads if I use them separately, I use the 8 ohm tap. Together - connected with a 'Y" splitter reduces the ohm load to 4 ohms where I use the 4 ohm tap. All three combinations give a unique, wonderful vintage tone.Try it.

I have a Maz18 2x10 and a ZBest cab. In larger venues and outdoors I use a series parallel box from KJL amps in Louisiana to convert the two 8 ohm loads to 4 ohms and plug into the 4 ohm output. This rig sounds huge. I've also used the box to produce a 16 ohm load and this safe mis-match does reduce the volume and seems to darken the tone a bit.
I also use the ZBest with my CARR Mercury and '66 BFPR and it shines with those amps as well.
Bang for the buck, regardless of what amp you have up to about 40 watts, The ZBest is hard to beat. If you're running much more power than that I'd get the new open 2x12 with the blue and silver Weber combination or see what the Doc thinks about putting the Webers in a ZBest.

If you want small and light I would personally go with the Z 2x10 instead of the Bogner(but that's just me)
The Z 2x10 is a HUGE sounding cab.

kaseri,
you made a great choice with the Bogner cube cab. I play through 2 of them simultaneously and the tone kills. One is loaded with the celestion vintage 30 and the other with the celestion g12h30. Together, its ballsier than the vintage 30 but tamer than the g12. Wait until you put a mic in front of that cab. To my ear, it sounds like a great vintage half stack coming through the house. Dont ask me why or how, I cant explain it. It is really nice!
While I've never spent any time with the Ghia, I do play a MAZ 18 JR head though these two cabs. Boy howdy, single coils and humbuckers, it just doesnt matter.
You are going to love this cab.

Been thinking of trying a Z 2x10 cab for my Ghia & 6545. Anyone here ever run a Ghia using a 1x12 & a 2x10 cab? If so, what were the tonal differences you noticed?

Hey kaseri, the Z 2x10 is a huge sounding little package, something about the dimensions of the cab, the Z lens technology, the speakers. Lightweight and easy to deal with too. In my case playing in either the classic rock/blues or honky tonk band the 1x12 needs to be closed back in order to be heard, but the 2x10 works fine as an open back. I'm on a single 12 kick right now because it's cheaper when changing out speakers...and I do that too often! I never got a chance to plug my Ghia into the 2x10, but everything else going into it sounded big.
Am keeping my eyes open for a good used Z 2x10 , although for just a few more dollars it seems you can get a new one.

Right now I'm using a Bogner Cube 1x12 V30 dual ported closed back cab. Sounds really great but I'm curious as to what the Z 2x10 cab will sound like with my Ghia & my 6545. I wish I had a good Z dealer locally but I dont
