Third Day was one of my favorite bands for ages and one of the reasons I picked up a guitar when I was in high school. I just noticed in recent pictures of them that Mark Lee is playing either a Maz senior or Junior. I can't make it out from the pictures. That makes me pretty excited that he's become a Z user!

I love Third Day as well. I was takin in when I heard "dont say nothing at all" off there first album when it was just released. The first time I seen them they were using Matchless combos with the lit up logo on the front.

Since I've been a Third Day fan, Brad has generally been using one Marshall head and cab, and one Matchless head on a marshall cab. He did go through a phase where he used a wall of little Epiphone amps since he's sponsored by them.
Mark though has been more of an amp switcher. He used an AC30 back in the day, then went to some Marshalls. It's really nice to see him using a Z now.

If he's been a Matchless and Vox fan as well as a consistent user of Marshalls - it is only logical that he gravitates toward a Z. Thanks for the post.

The production company's AC30 backline was used by Mark shortly before I did a gig with the same backline. I used the same amp, only touching the volume. The other knows were already in the right spots:)

Yeah, I just saw Third Day in Raytown, Mo. at First Baptist Church. Great show. It was the first time I'd personally seen them live (although I've seen lots of live footage). And first time I've seen them without Brad Avery. It was cool to see Mark playing a Z. His tone was great, very versatile, although I couldn't tell whether he was using the Z all the time or the Silver Jubilees he had on stage. The Z cab had a mic on it, the Marshall 4 x 12 did not.
Different subject, and in all seriousness...and I want to be sensitive to the band's direction, but has anyone heard if Third Day plans on getting another guitar player? If anyone hears anything through the grapevine, I would love to find out about an audition. Although I will say they sounded great with Mark all by himself!!! :-)

However, I can tell you that they plan to stick it out as a foursome. I'm sure that it's the best for everyone.

I just played with them this past saturday in north carolina. I plopped myself right next to his open back Z with 2 golds for the whole set. Sounded great. If I can figure it out I could get some video and pictures up for y'all to check out.

That is a Maz 38 NR. I built it last year for them! Jim, I just watched 3rd Day on Leno, what was the small Z combo he was using? It looked slightly larger than a Mini Z. His tone was nice.

I was betting on it being a Mini Z. It would make sense for it to be that in a TV studio. He was playing it with what was probably a backline Marshall as well. I didn't really see that either had mics on them though.

I think PRS needs to make a Mira in TV Yellow.

I was at that concert at the DTE music theater in MI. It was a great concert for a great cause (habitat for humanity) with Jars of Clay, Robert Randolph, Switchfoot and Third Day. Mark also had a Z combo on the stage that Drew Stanley of Switchfoot used when all the bands got on the stage together at the end of the show they did BB king When Love Comes to Town. Not sure what combo it was but to me it looked like a maz jr or sr but I was to far away to know for sure.

I still haven't gotten any of my pics or video up...(I should do that soon.) here's what he has... 2 marshall 25/50 and 2 matching 4x12 cabs a Maz Sr. NR with an empty open back Z cab under it and a 2x12 Z with two blues in it. Then about 10ft back is another Z 2x12 with two golds in it. (this is the Z cab that is miked.)

Thats interesting what's with having the empty cab I'm sure there is some reason for it. I'm glad Mark Lee wasn't the one to leave Third Day I've always liked his style as opposed to Brad Avery. He did an amazing job at the concert you didn't notice any difference without the extra guitarist.

Alright I FINALLY figured out how to do this. The top pic shows his whole Z rig. The next pic is an unloaded open back Z. (purely cosmetic.) The last was just a neat pic of the amp that was mic'd...two golds. Maybe I'll even put up some video someday...........wait, can you put video up on here? Thanks

He was smoking last night! Had a double stack last night, Maz38 and what looked like a Prescription. Wish I had gotten a picture! Both had airbrakes and 2-2x12 open back cabs each. No mics needed last night!

Not an RX, but a KT45 for the second amp.

I don't know much about Third Day but my old guitar tech, Brian Willis has been teching for Mark for quite a while. He convinced him to go "Z" a while back based on our excellent Z experience on the Earle Tour. Here's a pic of his current rig. 2 of the cabs are hooked up and there is another pair that are actually mic'ed under the stage. The Amps are a Maz 38NR and KT45 Brian wrote me yesterday 'cause he had visited the shop with Mark and the'd picked up a MOnza that they used to replace a Marshall Silver Jubille that was doing lap steel duty.

I just want to let you know that I don't think Third Day are gonna bring in a new guitarist. Ive had the privilage of seeing this band live on a few occasions but seeing them without Brad Avery was just as good (no disrespect to Brad who is an awesome guitarist and personality within the band). I think less can sometimes be more, I was so surprised at how full their music sounded being a man down. (Maybe its the Z's lol). I suppose I'm saying that they don't need someone else but you never know:)
