pulled out the strat to do a little practicing ahead of our Christmas event in a couple weeks at church. the tone sounded fine when i had some gain on, but cleans sounded off. Kind of a funny ring at the end of the chord and a bit of a ghost harmonic that wasnt musical at all. also seemed to have a little loss of volume.
i am guessing its the power tubes and will change them out tonight. anybody else have any different thoughts?

That funny ring sorta sounds like microphonic tube. Could be power tube, but my first guess is that EF86. My EF86 has developed a rattle, so I am going to try to swap it out and see if it fixes it. Although, I can't hear the rattle at gig volume.

I have several different brands Amperex Mullard etc ...but go with a NOS tube ... I would stay away from modern production ...the stock tube I beleive is a winged C ...

Probably any NOS. I have had good luck with the NOS Tesla EF86 or EF806. I believe winged =C= is what came in mine.

Got the mini watt from hi test guitars. Slapped it in the M12 and it sure sounds great...funny to me how a little piece of glass and filament could still work after 44 years.
