I understand that Sam's cancer doctors have had to remove his larynx after doing their best not to...sure hate to hear that. You won't find another like him. Danny Cochran, my bud that played drums w/ 'em for years, says Sam is the drummer on "Look on Yonder's Wall" and some other Elmore James gems... Anson has been working a little w/ another singer, and I hear his lovely wife will be singing some with them too. Anson has become a worldwide 'Z'bassador, I was shocked when he left his trusty Super Reverb at home!

Anson is one of my top guys as well. Bbummer to hear about Sam, i've heard him a number of times and he was always killer.
Anson is a nice guy and easy to talk to. At a show in the early 90's he had a Gibson Archtop setting in a stand, can't remember if it was an es5 non switchmaster or an es350. Anyway after the show i asked if he'd turn the stand so i could look at it and he just handed it to me...I was totally amazed.

I was shocked when I heard of Sam's cancer.. just early last year I saw the Rockets at a casino river boat in Vicksburg, Ms. and Sam's harp sounded HUGE!... I've also had the pleasure of sitting down with Sam and chatting for awhile..just a real nice gentlemen and one of a handful of the early blues-men left today.... www.sweetsammyers.com/"Today we have Good News and Bad News. Sam's doctors have given the "green light" for his release; in fact, this happened a couple of days ago. All the updates Sam has received this week were pointing to Friday as the day he would be released from Abbott and be admitted to a facility in Dallas where he would continue his recovery and therapy. After waiting on pins and needles all week, Sam FINALLY received word that his preferred care facility in Dallas will admit him. Of course that is GOOD NEWS. The BAD NEWS is that the Dallas facility won't be able to admit him until Monday. Sam was really pumped and the thought of yet another delay has knocked the wind out of his sails. But, it is official, come Monday Sam will be back in Big D. His bags are already packed."
