Hello All,
I hear Brad Paisley is a fine guitar player and I'd like to buy a CD of his. Any suggestions on which one? I'm more interested in his guitar playing than anything else, if that makes the choice easier.
Thanks,
Zeddediah

You can't go wrong with any of them, but it is hard to beat his first one, "Who Needs Pictures." Great playing, great variety, and great tone (although, there are no Z's on that CD). "Part II" would be my next choice.

Hmmm, difficult. I'd say i like the tones best on mud on the tires and the latest one; the songs best on mott and who needs pictures. Guitar playing on all is incredible. Must hear tracks for guitar playing are the nervous breakdown off who needs pictures; time warp off time well wasted and munster rag off part II. Honestly, you can't go wrong with anything with his name on it. I would not change a single note he has played ever on record.

I only have MOTT and TWW. Guitar playing is great on both. I prefer TWW just a little more than MOTT. Get both, life's short.

The TWW at Target has 4 extra songs on a different CD. I don't know if I could pick a favorite cd. If you compare these side by side, they are all great in different ways. Buy all 4, Brad needs the money for a new "Z".

I really like Mud on the Tires and Time Well Wasted, the instrumentals are incredible on both. You can't go wrong if you buy one of those two or both.

Get all 4 and thank us later.
Then find the mud on the lens live DVD.
Thank profusely, buy tickets to Brad's show, be a changeed man.
Now I daydream about paisley tele's to go with my red Z.

IMHO -MOTT was THE best Brad has done tonewise. From the opening track you just get that smooth grit of his ES about to throw a cone and it just gets into me and sends chills down my spine. The overdrive he used on all that btw was the Zendrive. He had already dropped the hotcakes out of the rack.Good call. If you want his tone without crcking your homes foundation , please look into the Zen!

If you mean the prescription es, i don't think it was created by then. Zac childs (BPs guitar tech) has said that MOTT was mostly mazerati, 62 ac30 and z28.

MOTT for me absolutely.
The songs were great, and his guitar tone on that one was essentially perfect in my books. I wouldn't have changed a thing.
Time Well Wasted is my least favourite of all of them. I rarely listen to it. I hate to say it, but I wasn't crazy on the guitar tone on that album much at all. MOTT is in my player a lot though.
Mud On The Lens is fantastic, as someone mentioned also.
Who Needs Pictures is great too.

IMO, it was Time Well Wasted and Mud On The Lens. His skill and sense of melody and lyrics improve with each outing. Brad's sense of humor also shines throughout these two album. These CDs are always in the changer in the car.

I would have to say "Mud on The Tires" was his best album. Tone-wise it was excellent. Seemed to be a step higher than his tone with his vintage AC30. The songs were very well written, creative and clever. Spaghetti Western Swing, unforgettable. Part II has some very good songs as well. "I'm gonna miss her", one of his most memorable songs, "Wrapped Around", another career defining song. This album also contains my favorite instrumental, the "Munster Rag". I didn't hate "Time Well Wasted", or the tone he got on it but it was by no means the best he's ever done. The instrumental wasn't as memorable. I enjoyed his RXES more on his "Mud on the Lens" DVD I agree with the others, buy them all. You'll never regret it.

Time Well Wasted was the first I bought after seeing BP on a HD Net special on DirecTv. I was blown away of course. TWW has some amazing song writing on it and I think the guitar work is also top notch...
Just got 5th Gear and I am pleased so far....
What I would like to know is a breakdown of what gear was used on what song?
What is the old AC30 and what is the new Stangray, Carmen Ghia, or Maz?
Wonder if the Doctor could find out this information for us?

As mentioned earlier, I love the "Mud on the Lens" DVD. Brad's playing and tone (Maz SR and Stingray on this one) are always great and his vocals on this live show are outstanding. Great backstage interview with Brad putting a Mini Z through its paces too. I watch/listen to this DVD even more than any of the CDs.

I have all of his albums (okay, CDs) - 5th Gear is my favorite. Hard to pick 'em in order after that since IMO they're all great, but I seem to be listening to Part II a lot.
If anybody has a lead on where to buy a copy of 'Mud on the Lens', please let me know. I can't find it anywhere, and would love to get ahold of it!
AZCoyote - I believe all that information is on his fan club site. They used to have it in the public area, but I think it's been moved to the "members only" area of the site now. I don't have any of the CDs in front of me right now, but he often includes some of the gear info in the liner notes too.

Oh man, I didn't realize that the DVD had become so hard to find. It was a Best Buy exclusive and they don't sell it anymore. I saw some insane Amazon.com prices through vendors for $50 or so. There's currently one on eBay with 5 days left plus change.

I have Mud on the Tires, 5th Gear, and just bought Time Well Wasted. I really enjoy all three. I think I like MOTT best, but I think the tone is best on 5th Gear. They're all really good.

MOTT, MOTL, then a tie for 3rd with TWW/5G.
Actually, I have a CMT Special Muddi gras on tape, his tone was killer on that too. I think he was running an RXES & MazSr together.

Part II is perhaps a less obvious choice but still fantastic, Two Feet of Topsoil and I'm Gonna Miss Her are favourites. Agree with you guys, buy them all..........

Another vote for Mud on the Tires. I'm looking to pickup Mud on the Lens. Unfortunately its only available at Best Buy here in Canada. Which means a trip out of town. On the Dr Z site its one of the recommended DVDs to hear the Dr Zs in live action.

I cant actually choose one. I like'em all so much. There's at least one hour of brad paisley listening a day for me and I never seem to get tired of it. I'm discovering new things to extract from his guitar playing almost every day!
He's almost supernatural. He's like the Jimi Hendrix of country. Doing things that's no one has ever done before.

I absolutely adore every note on MOTT. The tone, good Lord! Perfection. I'd love to know which cuts were Z28, and which licks had the Zendrive.
MOTT is the only BP record I've got at this point - I'm think I'm going to go with 5th Gear next, based on my love for Throttleneck. I saw that one in the iTunes music store, it said (Instrumental) out beside it, so I grabbed it. I spent the next half hour trying to pick myself up off the floor. My jaw will never be the same.......
It's completely crazy to me that I like a country music artist, but Brad is seriously my favorite guitar player right now. And I think he will be for a long time!

I've got 4 of Brad's CD's. I just discovered him a few months ago and have gone hog wild over his playing. I listen to the 4 CD's every time I'm in the car. The other day I had 5th gear in and my wife said "gawd can we not listen to something else?". So I took it in and stuck in MOTT. Apparently thats not what she meant.

My girlfriend seriously can't believe I walk around singing country songs. She said if I ever say the words "Holy CRAP that dude can WAIL" again, she is going to punch me in the face. She's a very sweet girl, but I think even Ghandi would slap me I've said it so much. Bought 5th gear today, so it's likely to get worse.......
