I saw Big "MICHAEL BURKS" at the 930 Blues Cafe in Jackson,MS a couple of weeks ago! He absolutely has to be one of the better blues rock players playing today!
He plays a Gibson FLying V., Les Paul and a Strat through one of the good Doc's Maz 38 Sr. 2X12 combos! Let me tell you his tone is thick as molasses with searing overdrive just from the humbuckers of the gibsons and plugged straight into the Maz 38 Sr.!!
I was in awe for 2:30 hours of hearing Michael ripping solo after solo through the Maz Sr. 38!!
He uses his dual set of Delta 88's with 2 -Z Best 2X12 cabinets for the larger venues! He is a super down to earth incredible blues guitarist that just flat plays his arse off on every single song that he plays! Does lots of covers of old blue tunes and has his own material from 3 albums that is awesome! He is on the biggest blues label going "Alligator Records"!! He told me that he played 151 gigs last year with his Z amps with no breakdowns!! He told me firsthand that he had never had any other amps that came close to duplicating the reliability or the tone of his Z amps!! I hope Dr. Z realizes what an endorser he has in Michael Burks!!
I don't believe that any musician anywhere can match that track record with any other Boutique amp available!
Don't pass up the chance to see "Big Michael Burks"! He is truly inspiring to hear and if you have one of the Dr.Z's amps you will know why you chose one even more so after hearing Michael Burks!
I have a Z-28 head and one of Doc's killer 2X10 cabinets that just smokes!!

Hey myles,
I knew you would show up at this forum! You have been largely responsible for many a person buying into the Dr.Z amp lineup!
I am trying to work a trade on a 6545 for my Z28! I love the tone of the Z28 but I want a gainer amp to go with it! I can't afford 2 Z amps right now so I think having the KT45 and the 65 in one chassis would fill the bill mighty fine! I got to play the 6545 briefly at ELite Music in Montgomery,AL where I purchased my Z28 head and 2X10 combo!
It sounded really good but as I said I only briefly played through it! Anyway If the trade doesn't work out I will be fine with my Z28 for now and will probably take ownership on one of Doc's killer little fire-breathers the MINI-Z!!
Those clips by Buddy Whittington are down-right scary good sounding!!
I will most likely go see Michael Burks again in Jackson,MS on the weekend of July 1st and 2nd!
Very inspirational player for anyone that plays guitar regardless of the genre of music that they like and play!

Coco Montoya just recieved his new MAZ SR head and 1X12 cab .
Though not a pure traditional Blues Player but he plays some blues and has one of best recorded tones, Steve Miller is now touring with a Mazerati.

Talk about a great recorded tone! Tab is awesome.

Speaking of blues greats, I'm gonna initiate two of them to the Z next week.
WC Handy winner Louisiana Red and harp monster Bob Corritore are returing from Italy next week and we're opening for them and then backing them in Albuquerque. Anyway, Bob calls me and tells me they will land with Red's guitars and with his harps and they need a couple of 4 X 10s to play through.
I say, no problem, you can use my Concert Reverb and Red can use my Bassman. He says, wow, that's great--but what are you gonna play backin us up? I say, Oh, I'll just play my Z amp, that's all I play now anyway.
There's dead silence, then he says (almost with a reverence) .....I've never played thru anything but a Fender. What's a Z? I say, that's okay you guys can play thru the Fenders and check out my Z.
Now, I am not anything like Red on guitar, or slide or ANYTHING, but I can't wait till they hear the thick, saturated tones and look around and go "what the hell?" I'll keep you guys posted.

Well, guys we've got a new Z initiate.
I was backing up WC Handy winner Louisiana Red, a true world-class Delta-Blues-to-Chicago legend this past weekend. 4 time Grammy winner / harp player Bob Corritore was also playing with him. I loaned Bob a Blues Deville for his harps and Red played through my Concert Reverb (they both like 4X10s).
Anyway, they show up--just flew in from Italy. We go to do a sound check. I plug Red into my Fender and get his old Strat and '53 Kay all hooked up and he looks at my Maz Jr and says "so that's one of them Z amps I heard about, huh?" I say --yeah, I really like it.
Halfway through the gig, we finish a song and he says, "Gator, your old Gibson (Paul custom) sure sounds good, can I play it?" I say 'sure' and hand him the black beauty. Well, he plays it the rest of the gig through the Z and absolutely loves it.
Here's Louisiana Red whose about 75 and been playing since he was 10 years old and knows every slide trick, finger-pick lick, etc. you could ever imagine and he's blown away. He just smiles all the rest of the night. Ever once in a while he'll look back and just smile and shake his head.
Near the end of the gig he tells the crowd, "Now, Gary here is my brother---but I sure would like to take this with me."
If I live to 100 I'll never play like Red and never experience all he has, but I got to teach an old dog a new trick. He loved the Z. If I was a rich man, I'd buy him one for a gift.

My band setup and ran PA for Smokin' Joe when he came to the Cleveland area about 2 years ago. He was using the Maz Sr. then. He sounded fantastic. He also had a pedalboard full of Fulltone stuff.
He asked me about my gear, and I asked about his. He said the secret to his tone wasn't his guitars or his effects...It was his new Dr. Z amp! He said that it was absolutely the single best amp he has ever played. He said, "I've played them all, Marshall, Fender, Boogie...Anything you can think of, and the Dr Z just blows them all away in my opinion."
He and the whole band were absolutely classy guys and super appreciative of our work on the sound. I talked to them for awhile after the show and I told him I was suprised that doctor Z didn't show up to see him play. He looked at me for a moment, then said he didn't realize he was anywhere near Dr Z, and that he would've called him if he had realized he woul be close by.
Anyhow, seeing that show is one of the reasons I decided to buy a Z.

I'm with you, bobbyray. I saw Smokin Joe a couple months ago for the first time and bought a Z after hearing his sound. He had 2 Sr's, a 1x12 and a 2x10. Does anyone know how long he's been using them? Obviously at least 2 years but anyone know?
