Because of the good Dr. I have discovered a great musician named Brad Paisley. I have a limited knowledge of Country artists. The only Country artist that I have really been into is Jr. Brown and Jr. is one HELL of a player. On my search for tone I sort of stumbled onto the Dr. Z site & this is where I first heard of Brad. I found his clips of the RxEs interesting & I've managed to catch Brad on the CMT awards show. The other day I stumbled onto his video for Whiskey Lullaby which is an excellent song indeed.
Thank you Dr. Z for helping an old rock player expand his musical taste & discover artists that truly are a joy to listen to.

I too discovered the magic of Dr. Z through Brad. Amazing player, songwriter, performer. He's pretty much got it all. Really got me into to Country Music and now proud owner of a Mini-Z and a Prescription ES. All my other amps and rack gear are now up for sale. Z's and a couple of good pedals and I can handle anything from Roots, to Country to Metal. The eternal quest has ended!!!

I'm an old 80's hair band guy that was converted after hearing Brad P, I never have heard, or will hear an 80's rocker pick like that.

Z's amps are certainly inspiring....It's cliche, but I fell in love with them as soon as I realized the "sound in my head" always came out, depending on how I set the amp. Regardless of recording session, club gig, arena, or rehearsal, I'll always been able to get exactly the sound I wanted out of my Z's. I was doing a show in Texas this past week with country artist Bobby Pinson, and the guitar player from the opening band (which was a local act) was asking me about my Z's. He said, "Well, I've heard you can get great dirty tones out of them, but how are the cleans?" My response- "The clean tones from my MAZ Sr. and Jr. sound like what you *wish* blackface Fenders sounded like...." ;-) Brad P has certainly made his signature sound even more so since his involvement with Z's.... Lou Toomey with Brooks & Dunn and formerly of Faith Hill is another one that is an amazing player who sounds even better since he got the "Z fever." Simply put, Z's are hard to beat, regardless of what you are comparing them to.

hey all...Like imyurteleberry...much of my training was from the rock virtuosos of the 80's (playing 27 years). I won't go into my musical experience too much here but I can shred anything by Vai, Malmsteen, Satriani. Thought I had a good handle on the instrument....THEN one day while working around the house I put on my cheap shop radio. My rock stations were all nothing but static...flip past a country station (in my clouded immaturity I thought "oh God anything but this") and I catch the end of the very inspiring ‘God Bless the USA’ by Lee Greenwood. I thought, that's kinda cool I’ll listen to one more before I just put a cd in.....well it was Mr. Paisley. Liked it for the songwriting, bought it…scanned to ‘The nervous breakdown’ (Who needs pictures). What follows is my routine after every Paisley release. Step One: Pick Jaw up off the floor. Step Two: Fight the urge to sell all of my guitars and quit. Step Three: Convert every song to wave files on my computer and listen and at half or quarter speed. Step Four: Pick jaw up off the floor again. The clarity and precision of his picking is absolutely mind boggling. The subtleties are hard to catch at his speed, there are little bends between blistering fast notes. Studio tricks? (I’m hoping so I can keep my guitars)…. No luck, I’ve seen him live multiple times and the live versions are FASTER and just as clean played effortlessly. I can’t believe he’s not on the cover of Guitar Player Magazine twice a year. As far as the other members of his band…They each deserve their own website forum. If anyone is interested in hearing a slowed down version of his solos or riffs, let me know what you want and I’ll post them to my site and a link here (tabs too if I’ve got them). Good learning tool to witness a master at work.

Yup - Brad's a wicked picker. We did several shows together when I was with Jo Dee - I would always hang behind the stage where his cabinets were facing back. No studio trickery there. I stood in front of his speakers and everything was spot on. Pretty damn loud, too!

I also grew up with the '80's shred stuff. My biggest influences for that sort of stuff were probably George Lynch, Paul Gilbert, Vinnie Moore, and Vai. Neal Schon and Angus Young were two of my biggest all-around influences. I do like Morse a lot, too. I've been trying to absorb some stuff from Paisley, Keith Urban, and Brent Mason, too (especially since moving to Nashville!) Take care, jz

Hey JZ, throw in Steve Lukather, Dan Huff and Michael Landau and of course Satch and you've probably got me covered as well. Richie Blackmore, Jimi and Jimmie Page, and Ace Frehely, Andy Scott and Brian May, oh and of course Mr Gibbons. Probably would have to include Brad Gillis as well. And then came Eric Johnson... I will have to post some of my Playstation sessions (mega shred) sometime for a laugh. I still love Neil Schon. Aaahhh I forgot my biggest hero, Andy Summers. I find I'm going back more to the old 70's players again. I'd love to get some of CountryShawn's chicken picken licks happening. They are too cool. Starting to dig Albert Lee, Vince Gill and Paisley but you'll never take the rock out of me. Nice playing, may you receive many well paid gigs!

jz and t, I know I'm getting way off the thread topic (I hope I don't get smited, or is it smote?) You guys are naming every dust covered Cd, vinyl and cassette in my collection. Ya’ll gonna make me want to pull my old Peavy Vandenburg out of storage….I remember wearing out Vinnie Moore's minds eye...even bought his big hair video to learn sweep picking. Ah, the ‘80s….Randy Rhodes, Jason Becker, Viv Campbell, G Lynch, John Sykes, Reb Beach, Vito Bratta, Kee Marcello. Crazy times indeed…people bolting huge Kahler Trems on to vintage Les Pauls….Scalloping fretboards and routing humbuckers into vintage strats. Oh the humanity! Not to mention the ozone damage from all the hairspray.
Schon's a melodic monster, I've copped every one of his licks. He was a favorite of Bettencourt’s (who also turned my head more than a little). Gosh yeah Angus….A few more of may fav’s, SRV, Al DiMeola, Steve Howe, Tom Sholtz, David Gilmore, Rik Emmitt, Alex Lifeson, Jeff Beck.
Like ya’ll I’m chicken picken now….
Please try to post some recent stuff through your Z when you get a chance.
